Set overlooking the Northumberland coast with panoramic views that sweep over the countryside and out to the sea beyond, this peaceful studio is the perfect spot to escape from it all. It is the self-contained north wing of a converted stone and timber barn and has been built using natural and sustainable materials. The big windows, the light tones of the bamboo floors, the birch plywood used in the kitchen and the timber and stone walls all create a bright and airy space with a contemporary feel. During the day, the interior is flooded with natural light and you’ll be treated to some spectacular sunrises. As evening draws in, light a fire in the log burner and put your feet up as you watch the stars come out.
Inside, you’ll find an open plan living space with floor-to-ceiling windows along the side that overlooks the coast. The cosy lounge area with its comfy sofa and log burner is in prime position for enjoying the view. Just behind this, there’s a window seat that looks out over the countryside to the north and makes a lovely reading nook. There’s also a well-equipped kitchen and an extendable dining table in the centre of the studio.
The sleeping area is divided off with a linen curtain and the king size bed is equipped with crisp cotton sheets, along with an environmentally friendly vegan down duvet. A long window at the foot of the bed means that you can enjoy the sunrises in the morning without getting up. There’s also a bathroom with a shower, fluffy towels and some toiletries waiting for you.
An eco-friendly air source heat pump provides underfloor heating throughout the studio and the windows are triple glazed to keep you cosy. On chillier days, the soapstone-clad log burner will warm up the interior quickly. During the warmer months, you can open the sliding glass doors straight out onto the large, secluded garden. There’s also a covered porch area with a bench so you can sit outside under a bit of shelter while doing a bit of bird watching. The porch also has a storm door to protect you from the elements. If you’re lucky you might catch a glimpse of the resident barn owls. The property also has a boot room, a bicycle store, a log store with a freezer and a drying room.
There’s plenty of exploring to do around the studio whether you prefer long walks in the countryside, days at the beach or a bit of sightseeing. Start with a stroll down to Alnmouth Bay or head off on your bike along Route 1 of the National Cycle Network. You’ll be able to stop off at seaside villages on the way, such as Warkworth which has a medieval castle to visit. The famous market town of Alnwick is less than 10 miles away with its historic castle and gardens. If you venture a little further afield, the tidal Holy Island is 50 minutes away and if you hop on a train at the nearby Alnmouth East Cost Main Line station, you can be in the centre of Edinburgh in an hour, plus regular direct trains to Newcastle and London as well.
