Set in the hillside of a working farm in North Yorkshire, Pheasant’s Roost is an underground holiday pod that captures the imagination and reminds you of mythical hillside dwellings of old. It’s located in the heart of Ryedale with stunning views over the rolling Howardian and Hambleton hills from the porthole windows. Enjoy long walks in the North York Moors National Park nearby or day trips out to the coast to visit Whitby or Scarborough. Return to Pheasant’s Roost for a glass of wine on the patio before a dip in the hot tub while you enjoy the sunset.

Step inside your cosy hideaway and you’ll find yourself in the spacious open-plan kitchen and living area. Natural light floods in through the glass front door and windows offering stunning views over the farm and the countryside beyond. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you need to whip up quick, simple meals, including an oven, hob and fridge-freezer. Pull up a seat at the breakfast bar and tuck into dinner while enjoying the view, or put your feet up on the sofa in the adjoining living space.

There are two bedrooms, both featuring luxurious king-size beds. You can sit up in bed in the morning and enjoy the view through the porthole windows. Each of the bedrooms also has an ensuite bathroom and plenty of storage space. Room for two more guests can be made by converting the sofa into another double bed.

Outside, you’ll find your own private patio area where you can enjoy your meals alfresco and sip a glass of wine while you soak up the scenery. There’s also a hot tub, so you can sit back and relax late into the evening and do a bit of stargazing with a night sky free of light pollution.

There’s plenty to do in the local area, from discovering the abundant flora and fauna on the farm itself to long walks in the nearby North York Moors National Park. The vibrant market town of Pickering is just three miles down the road and, from here, you can jump on a train out to Whitby for a day at the coast. The city of York is also nearby and makes a great destination for a day trip whether you’re interested in its fascinating history or want to visit some of the independent shops and excellent restaurants.

Had an amazing 3 night stay here, 2 Adults, 2 older teenagers and the dog. The most beautiful View, Spotlessly clean, welcome basket and kitted out with everything you need. Beds are super comfortable, hot tub is fantastic as is the smart tv. Theme park Flamingo land only 20 mins away and Whitby 40 mins, loads to do in the local area. Great long dog walks around the farm that can be off lead when away from the farm and animals. Robert ( owner ) and Simon (employee ) couldn’t have been friendlier and more accommodating. My kids now want to live there and we will definitely be back. Couldn’t recommend enough.
