Offering a modern twist on the traditional holiday huts and chalets that are dotted along the Norfolk coastline, Shangri-La is an architect designed bolthole that offers perfect proportions and fantastic design at every turn.
A holiday house with a difference, with unique and unusual design touches as well as the high quality fittings and fixtures, which transform Shangri-La into something much more than just a simple beach house.
Even from the outside, you will be get a sense of the accommodation on offer. Surrounded by its own private garden and terrace, you know that truly restful times are ahead of you. Step inside and simple modern design with mid century touches and splashes of colour will make you catch your breath. The house has also been designed according to Passivhaus standards which means it is extremely kind to the environment.
The main living area is an open plan space, that offers expansive and uninterrupted views out across the coastal plains towards the broads. The living and dining area is modern and embellished with Louis Poulsen pendant lights suspended above a solid wood table with a bold yellow top and Eames dining chairs. Sumptuously deep leather sofas are perfect for sinking into after a busy day exploring the Norfolk coastline, and the unusual ply wood walls are complimented by colourful reclaimed beach hut cladding.
The kitchen is a fine example of simple Scandinavian styling with washed plywood units, open wood shelves and contrasting dark panels that house the cooker, fridge freezer and other appliances. Subway tiles and solid oak flooring complete the look. Everything you need can be found here including a coffee machine, cooking utensils and crockery, dish washer, grill, kitchen stove, microwave, oven, refrigerator, blender and toaster.
There is also a separate TV/games room in the house, which is perfect for younger members of your family, or those looking to enjoy a moment to themselves. Designed as beautifully as the rest of the house, this cosy den is a modern space designed for fun.
The simple but carefully constructed interior styling continues through to the bedrooms. The master offers an uber-comfortable king size bed, resplendent with crisp white linens and luxury bedding. Washed plywood wall panels, integrated bedside cabinets and patio doors that lead directly onto terrace give a feeling of total calm and relaxation.
The second bedroom also offers a huge king size bed with luxury linens and a single full height window with views out into the garden. The third bedroom is a twin with the same modern look and feel and more doors out onto the terrace and garden beyond.
The family bathroom offers high quality Duravit and Hansgrohe fittings, a high ceiling and a bold yellow floor to add a pop of colour. Soft, fluffy towels make this thoroughly modern bathroom feel every bit as luxurious as a five star hotel. There is also a Velux window here which you can leave open enabling you to listen to the sea while you have a bath and at night you can gaze up through the window at the stars. The second bedroom also has an en-suite shower room with a basin and w/c.
The gardens and grounds extend to around an acre, and the large grassy areas are perfect for running free, or sitting in the shade of a tree. You and your guests can also enjoy a touch of al fresco dining with the BBQ and outdoor seating.
The location of the beach house is one of its most endearing features by far. Just half an hour's drive from the cathedral city of Norwich, Shangri-La is located immediately behind the sand dunes, giving it a truly coastal feel. Housed within an Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB), the beach at Waxham is often referred to as one of the UK’s finest beaches and is whilst it is popular, it rarely gets crowded. The house adjoins the public footpath to the beach and the coast path runs in a field around Shangri-La.
For those looking to explore the Norfolk waterways, Hickling Broad and Horsey Mere are within a few miles, offering great access to the boats, pubs and villages that the area is so famous for.
