This remarkable hotel sits in a hillside and these ancient abodes were intricately carved into the rugged stone facade. When first discovered, these spaces featured exquisitely crafted arches nestled within heavily weathered stone walls, while the floors were once strewn with debris. Approaching the project with unparalleled sensitivity, the owners of the hotel preserved the authenticity of the original spaces and undertook renovations utilising traditional tools and construction materials, ensuring a harmonious blend of preservation and restoration.

They have created 18 generously proportioned bedrooms that exude a sense of spaciousness and are bathed in natural light. The renovation employed local materials to craft seating arrangements, beds, light fixtures, bathing spaces and even kitchenettes in select rooms, resulting in an accommodation experience that is truly unparalleled.

The accommodations offer a selection of four suite types for guests to choose from.

First, the Grotta Classic suites provide a romantic retreat within their 30-square-metre grotto rooms. Adorned with handmade furniture, these suites feature a king size bed adorned with antique linen and are equipped with either a bathtub or a shower.

Next, the Grotta Superior suites offer expansive cavernous spaces measuring 60 square metres. These suites boast handmade furniture, antique linen, and can accommodate up to three guests with a king-size bed and an additional single bed. The ensuite bathrooms feature stone sinks and a bathtub or shower, with some suites offering both options.

For those seeking even more space, the Grotta Suite presents a generously sized cave suite spanning 100 square metres. Set beneath graceful arches and vaults, it includes a king size bed, one double bed and two single beds upon request, as well as a comfortable sitting area. The bathroom boasts a large freestanding bathtub and a separate shower.

Lastly, the Grotta Executive Suites provide a truly dramatic experience, featuring original arches, vaults and exposed-stone walls within their 120-square-metre space. These suites include a double bed, with two single beds available upon request. Each suite also offers a cozy sitting area with a desk and a bathroom with a shower. Suite 13 features a fireplace, while suites four and eight boast elegant bathtubs. A private terrace accompanies each suite, providing sweeping views of the Murgia National Park.
