The details
Perched high on a beautiful hillside above a sweeping bay, Seall Lodge feels like your own secret hideaway by the sea. From the moment you arrive and glimpse the glittering Irish Sea below, there’s a sense of calm that settles in. The lodge looks straight out over the beach and across the water, offering an absolutely incredible setting that shifts with the light – silvery and serene in the morning, golden and glowing as the sun begins to dip.
Designed with a clever reverse-living layout, the heart of the lodge sits upstairs to make the most of those spellbinding views. The open-plan kitchen and dining space flows onto a full-size, glass-fronted balcony, so you can throw open the doors and let the sea air drift in. Step outside onto the terrace with a drink in hand and watch the sun begin to set over the bay, the sky streaked with pink and amber while the tide rolls gently below. It’s the kind of place where conversations linger long into the evening.
Back inside, the lounge is irresistibly cosy. Sink into a deep sofa as the wood-burner crackles away, keeping everything toasty and warm whatever the elements are doing outside. On blustery days, there’s something magical about watching waves tumble onto the shore from your snug hillside perch.
Downstairs, two beautifully styled super-king size bedrooms promise deep, restful sleep. One can be configured as a twin, making the lodge ideal for families or friends. The master bedroom features an ensuite with walk-in shower, while the second bedroom enjoys access to a family bathroom complete with a deep bath and separate walk-in shower – perfect for a long soak after salty beach adventures.
Just a stone’s throw away lies a wonderfully secluded sandy beach. Children can roam with bucket and spade, explorers can hunt for hermit crabs in the rockpools, and keen anglers can fish from the rocks. Set within 42 acres of gardens and woodland in the grounds of Knockinaam Lodge Hotel at the end of a single-track lane, Seall Lodge offers wild beauty, fresh sea air and a truly special coastal escape in Dumfries and Galloway.
