The details
Hidden deep within the Marsland Nature Reserve, Rosemarsland offers the chance to stay in one of Cornwall’s wildest and most wonderfully untouched corners. Surrounded by ancient woodland, wildflower meadows and river valleys, this historic home feels blissfully removed from everyday life. Best of all, you can set off from the front door, follow the river through the woods for around a mile and emerge onto secluded Marsland Mouth Beach, a beautiful stretch of coastline that can only be reached on foot.
Rosemarsland began life as an ancient byre dating back to the 1800s, before becoming part of a working farm in 1941. Completely transformed in 2024, the house has retained plenty of its period character while offering a comfortable, stylish base for families and groups. It sleeps up to nine guests, with a maximum of six adults, across three flexible bedrooms. There’s a king size bedroom with an ensuite shower room, a twin bedroom with children’s trundle beds and a zip and link bedroom that can be arranged as twins or a super-king size bed, with an additional child’s sofa bed. There’s also a family bathroom with a bath and shower.
Downstairs, there are two cosy lounges to retreat to after days spent exploring the reserve. One has a Smart TV while the other has a log burner, ideal for settling in as darkness falls over the woods. The fully equipped kitchen makes catering for the group easy and the dining room seats all nine guests together. There’s also a games room with a pool table, football table and dart board, giving children and grown-ups somewhere to continue the fun when the weather turns. Superfast fibre WiFi, a washer and dryer add a few handy home comforts.
Outside, you’ll find plenty of space to breathe in the peaceful surroundings, including a fenced area where children and dogs can safely let off steam. Fire up the BBQ for an alfresco feast, then gather around the firepit as evening settles over the woodland. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome for an additional charge. The owners’ other holiday property, The Barley Mill, is at the same address and just a short walk away, which could be handy for larger groups wishing to holiday close together.
You could easily spend your stay without getting back in the car, with woodland, riverside and coastal walks beginning right outside. Follow the trail to Marsland Mouth Beach, wander through butterfly-filled meadows or head out along the dramatic coastline. Rosemarsland sits in Cornwall right beside the Devon border, putting adventures in both counties within easy reach. Bude is around 12 miles away for beaches, surfing and seaside days, while picturesque Clovelly is also around 12 miles away across the border in Devon.
