With beautiful views across the Berwyn Mountains, contemporary Rest on the Hill lies just outside the Shropshire town of Oswestry, making it the perfect choice to explore the west of England and Wales. This energy-efficient marvel of modern architecture is light, airy and spacious and has room for 4 guests looking to self-cater in spectacular style.
The award-winning architects of Manchester’s Architecture-M designed the property, finished in early 2015. Its eco-credentials are impeccable (solar panels, underfloor heating, rainwater harvesting and more), while the style and attention to detail is even more impressive.
The open-plan living area of the house looks out to the mountains, the view all the more breathtaking due to the room-wide triple-glazed window. The kitchen, seating and dining areas all benefit, and it also opens out on to a series of terraces from which to survey this most magnificent of scenes close up.
Each with its own luxurious en suite featuring a rain-powered shower and fluffy bathrobes. The two bedrooms have king-size beds dressed with high-quality linens, soft duvets and feather pillows. You can step directly out on to the terrace and breathe in the mountain air before settling down to breakfast, either inside or out. Later in the day, get together over a barbecue or just sit and watch the stars… this is a great location for it.
Throughout the house, you’ll find everything has been thought of, with an HD TV, Bose iPod dock and wave radio amongst your entertainment options. The kitchen is similarly well-equipped, with a dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine, plus a gas-topped LaCanche range which is a joy to cook on.
As well as bracing walks right from the doorstep, Rest on the Hill’s border location offers easy access to Snowdonia to the west and the Shropshire Hills to the south, while Shrewsbury and Wrexham are within around 40 minutes’ drive.
Even nearer, the ancient market town of Oswestry remains an important centre where those from both sides of the border come together, and its location promises there is an eventful history to uncover. Attractions including Chirk Castle and Powis Castle and Gardens in Welshpool, about 15 miles from Oswestry, are well worth checking out. Llangollen, home of the International Eisteddfod summer music festival, is a similar distance away, and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site which also includes the spectacular Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
Discovering this part of the UK is a decision you won’t regret, and outstanding Rest on the Hill alone is well worth the trip.

Leave a reviewWe had a fabulous stay at Rest on the Hill. It is a stunning property with breathtaking views over the Welsh hills from the huge glass windows, balcony and terraces. Everything was a luxury standard - the beds were extremely comfortable, the kitchen had everything item we could have needed and Caroline made us so welcome!

We have just got back from a 3 night stay at Rest on the Hill and thoroughly enjoyed our time. What an amazing house and an amazing place to stay in! The house itself was very clean on arrival and definitely had that wow factor when entering and seeing that fantastic view. The house was much bigger than expected and had everything we needed for our stay including ample bedding, towels, toilet rolls, soaps, blankets to get cozy on the couch with and plenty of kitchen ware to choice from and the bottle of bubbley was a lovely gesture to receive on arrival. We had excellent communication from Caroline leading up to our stay, she was very helpful and was also present shortly after we arrived to greet us and to make sure that we knew she was there if we required any assistance. Despite the owners being onsite there was at no point during our stay that we felt like our privacy was effected. We enjoyed spending time in the games room having quality family time playing games and using the binoculars available to be able to see the local wildlife. During our stay we were very lucky with the sunny weather and clear skies and the views from house were incredible. The area is extremely quiet so it was nice to sit outside with the blanket and enjoy the calm and peaceful surroundings. We would definitely recommend a stay at Rest on the Hill.

We had a fantastic four nights at Rest on the Hill and wish it could have been longer. The house itself is stunning and incredibly well-designed, both in terms of the space and comfort it offers, and its environmental credentials. Apart from our first day, the weather was dreadful throughout our stay, but watching dramatic storm clouds gather through those huge picture windows whilst enjoying the luxurious fixtures and fittings inside was very relaxing. We did venture out to waterfalls, lakes and mountains and had a good meal with very friendly service at the Barley Mow in Trefonen. Caroline was very helpful, answering questions and providing directions before arrival and making sure we knew we could call on her if needed during our stay, and also leaving us a welcome bottle of bubbly to enjoy. We definitely hope to be back, perhaps in the summer so we can enjoy those amazing views for even longer in daylight. Thank you Caroline for sharing your fantastic space.

Caroline was a wonderful host, warmly greeting us into her home, which truly is incredible! Beyond a grand design. It’s a spectacularly serene space to unwind in and was exactly what we were looking for from our short break. The landscape is captivating and the way in which the building is designed really makes you feel at one with the stunning surroundings. The vista constantly changed during our stay; we saw sunshine, rain, rainbows, hail, snow, lightning etc....but the view really did remain as breathtaking, whatever the weather! The interior was as relaxing as the view, the bedrooms and bathrooms are retreats in their own right. We could have stayed inside our entire stay and been content however, when we did explore the surrounding area we stumbled across Pistyll Rhaeadr, a beautiful waterfall (apparently the tallest in England & Wales) which was only 30minutes away by car - the walk there was very rewarding, yet just a sample of the wealth of places to explore nearby, with Caroline providing plenty of recommendations of places to visit. The lemon drizzle cake and champagne were also enjoyed! We would highly recommend booking a stay. Thanks again Caroline for welcoming us into your home.

WOW! What an amazing property which we were able to call "home" for 3 nights. This place is honestly, wonderful! It truly exceeded our expectations. We had the most relaxing time here and I am already making enquiries to return ASAP. I highly recommend this beautiful home. Caroline is a great host and was super welcoming.

Looking at the main photo, you may think you are looking at a modern bungalow. You couldn't be more wrong. This is a palace, and just like a royal palace, NO expense has been spared to create ultimate luxury. This is an architectural masterpiece and extremely eco-friendly. Absolutely everything is available to you. Just some of the features…a huge master bedroom with walk-in shower room and wardrobe/dressing room.....a second double bedroom with ensuite bathroom…a games room with wifi printer and sofas (a wonderful retreat if the kids have taken over the rest of the house) …the main room with its '55 Smart TV/sound system in one corner, luxury-fitted kitchen (complete with massive stove and American fridge) in the other and not forgetting a wall-to-wall picture window looking out onto the hills of Wales (the border is just down the road), which will leave you breathless. Wrap yourself in one of the bathrobes as you awake in the morning...walk down the long corridor to the main room...activate the remote control and, as the huge blinds of the picture window roll upwards, take in the spectacular views. This is a 7-star property (I have no idea if that rating exists, but it does here). Caroline, we are still in awe of your accommodation. Thank you so much again!

Our jaws dropped as soon as we entered the house and saw the magnificent view. It almost doesn't seem real - as though you are looking at a painting. The house itself is fantastic. Everything you could possibly want is provided and it is extremely comfortable. We were happy to spend most of our time on the terraces just looking at the view and enjoying the peace and quiet, especially as we were very fortunate with the weather. There are walks and many things to do nearby, but we enjoyed the house so much we didn't really venture far. Caroline is a very welcoming host, as are her 2 lovely dogs Ben and Penny who like to pay you a visit now and then. We cannot recommend Rest on the Hill any more highly than to say we booked to return at Christmas before we left.

Without doubt the best of the many properties we have stayed in. Caroline has created a beautiful and well equipped house. The views are breathtaking; I am quite jealous that it is not my home, and I cannot wait to return for another relaxing stay. This has the real ‘wow’ factor, and can be highly recommended.

Cannot recommend this place enough. We went during the snow which despite not being able to see those views added to the atmosphere in it's own special way. Caroline was very good at keeping in touch before the stay and we felt more than welcome, the cake on arrival was a lovely touch. Everything in this place screams luxury, from walk-in rainfall shower, right down to the pots and pans. My partner and I felt like the only 2 people in the world which is exactly what we wanted. It was just the place to pop the question to my partner and to my relief she said YES! Would definitely stay here again, about 10 minutes from the local town, with lots of sights and walks within 30 minutes (if you want to!). Personally I just enjoyed lazing around the house for a few days doing nothing but enjoying the house.

Wow wow wow! Absolutely stunning property, pure luxury. Decorated and furnished to a very high standard with your everything you may need being available! The views are extraordinary and totally serene, I spent many hours just observing the scenery in total relaxation! On our arrival there was homemade lemon cake and prosecco chilling in the fridge. This break was just what we needed, thank you very much! We can’t wait to come back ????

We stayed at “Rest on the Hill” for a weekend with friends ( and their dog). The house is absolutely beautiful, set amongst rolling countryside with walks on the doorstep . There is a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely seating area that both give amazing views from the floor to ceiling windows. The bedrooms are spacious with comfortable king sized beds and luxurious bathrooms. Caroline was a welcoming and accommodating host whose home made cake on arrival was a delicious touch

This was our 3rd stay at Rest on the Hill and each stay has been very relaxing - the name certainly fits the property. The house is well equipped and very comfortable, with fantastic views from the living room. But if you can tear yourselves away there is plenty to do in the surrounding areas to cater for all tastes - whether it be taking a stroll in the countryside, shopping or eating out. Caroline always makes us feel very welcome and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a "get away from it all" holiday. Looking forward to visit number 4 already!!!

Stayed here at Easter and have to say it is one of the best places we have rented in a long time. Caroline the owner has really created something quite special. The view is amazing and the property is finished to an incredibly high standard. Everything has been thought of to the finest of details. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be returning.
