Pods in the Sticks does exactly what it says on the tin. Tucked away on a small working sheep farm just outside Kendal, this is a wonderfully peaceful glamping escape where wide skies, grazing sheep and rolling fells set the tone from the moment you arrive. With far-reaching views towards the Lake District, Kentmere, Whinfell and the Howgill fells, it feels deliciously remote yet perfectly placed for adventure on both sides of the county line.
The site itself is small, quiet and thoughtfully laid out, offering just two cosy glamping pods, each named after the surrounding fells that frame the views. Designed to feel like a proper countryside hideaway, the pods are almost identical and comfortably sleep two adults and two children, making them ideal for relaxed family breaks or easy-going escapes with the dog in tow.
Inside, the pods are warm, welcoming and cleverly designed to make the most of the space. There’s a comfy double bed alongside a pull-out corner sofa bed for the kids, all dressed and ready for a great night’s sleep. The kitchenette is compact but well equipped for light meals, lazy breakfasts and easy suppers, while underfloor heating keeps things cosy whatever the weather. A modern shower room, TV, WiFi and thoughtful extras like games and USB charging points add those home comforts that make settling in effortless.
Step outside and each pod comes into its own. Your private outdoor space is the perfect spot for morning coffee with a view, long alfresco lunches at the picnic table or evenings spent gathered around the fire pit as the sun dips behind the fells. As night falls, the skies darken and the stars come out, making this a brilliant place to slow down and reconnect with nature.
From here, you’re brilliantly placed to explore. Kendal is just minutes away for shops, cafés and supplies, while the Lake District National Park lies on one side and the Yorkshire Dales on the other. Spend your days walking, cycling and exploring market towns, then return to your cosy pod for quiet nights and countryside calm.
