Tucked away in the foothills of Cadair Idris and accessed via a thrilling one-mile gravel track through ancient RSPB and SSSI-protected oak woodland, this pair of enchanting Mongolian yurts at Pandy Farms offers a genuinely off-grid, romantic escape. Quiet, secluded and surrounded by mountains, forest and sky, this is a place where tranquillity comes effortlessly and the outside world fades away.
Perfect for those craving a digital detox (with reassuringly good 4G for those who need it), each hand-crafted yurt blends rustic charm with thoughtful comfort. Inside, you’ll find beautifully furnished spaces filled with warm textures and traditional touches, while a cosy wood-burning stove sits at the heart of the yurt, keeping things snug whatever the weather. It’s the kind of space that invites slow mornings, long reads and evenings listening to the hush of the forest outside.
Despite their wonderfully remote feel, the yurts are well set up for a comfortable stay. A double gas stove and essential cooking utensils make simple meals easy, while basic solar lighting and USB sockets support low-impact living. Just a few steps away, a steamy outdoor shower and conventional outdoor loo offer comfort with a sense of adventure, and fresh spring water is available on site (simply boil before drinking).
As night falls, gather around the fire pit beneath vast, dramatic skies. With almost no light pollution, Snowdonia is one of the UK’s first designated Dark Sky Reserves, and stargazing here is nothing short of breathtaking. Wake the next morning to panoramic views of Cadair Idris, crisp mountain air and birdsong — a powerful reminder of how rare true stillness can be.
Although wonderfully secluded and accessible by 4x4 only, the yurts are ideally placed for adventure too. The coast and Mawddach Estuary are just ten minutes away, offering a perfect balance of wild exploration and cosy nights by the fire.
Surrounded by breathtaking countryside, there’s no shortage of things to explore. Walk or cycle straight from the doorstep through woodland trails, lakes and rugged mountain paths. Tackle iconic climbs on Cadair Idris or Mount Snowdon, enjoy the gentle, scenic Mawddach Trail along the estuary, or head to Cregennan Lakes for peaceful circular walks with sweeping views. For adrenaline, Zip World offers zip-lining and underground adventures, while Fairbourne, Aberdyfi and Barmouth beaches provide coastal charm, watersports and romantic seaside strolls.
