The Details

Step into Orchard Cottage, a beautifully restored 19th century retreat tucked away in the tranquil village of Golant on the River Fowey. This Grade II-listed hideaway blends calming elegance with contemporary detail, creating an atmosphere of soft luxury and slow-living that makes you exhale the moment you arrive. Surrounded by rolling hills and estuary scenery that inspired Daphne du Maurier, it’s the kind of place where childhood memories are rekindled and new ones are made with ease.

Inside, the cottage feels warm, curated and thoughtfully updated after its 2023 restoration. Muted tones, vintage linen Bloomsbury armchairs and willow-green Cornish crockery set the scene for quiet mornings and cosy evenings. A butter-yellow kitchen invites relaxed cooking sessions with the doors thrown open to the garden, while blush pink walls, angular lamps and cool mid-century pieces bring a stylish twist.

The home is nice and bright thanks to lots of natural light, yet the lounge remains cosy and warm thanks to a wood-burning fireplace keeping things toasty whatever the weather outside. Once you’ve whipped up a feast in the kitchen, dine together on the spacious modern dining table that sets the scene for superb group meals that stretch into the night.

On warm days, head outside and relax on your private sout-facing lawn whilst soaking in your surroundings. Or venture further afield and explore the peaceful scenery and rolling countryside that stretches out in all directions.

When night falls there is space for six people across three beautiful bedrooms, each one fitted with deluxe linens and peaceful colour palettes. Enjoy a restful night’s sleep before waking up ready to see more of what this fabulous part of Cornwall has to offer.

With the village centre just moments away, you can stroll down to the waterfront for lunch at the Fishermans Arms or sip cocktails at Bar Silo among locals. Outside, the landscape beckons. Kayak along the estuary, hike across the downs to Fowey or simply watch the tide shift beneath the oak-fringed shoreline. Gentle walks, village pubs, stand-up paddle boarding and lazy riverside moments all begin right on your doorstep. With Par Railway Station just ten minutes away and Newquay Airport within easy reach, it’s wonderfully accessible while feeling blissfully secluded.
