The details

Tucked away amongst apple trees in the peaceful Burn Valley, Orchard cabin is an off-grid hideaway made for slowing down and embracing the wild beauty of Dartmoor. New for summer 2026, this secluded retreat sits on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, between open moorland and the River Burn, giving you the chance to wake to birdsong, swim in clear rivers and end the day stargazing from your private outdoor bath. With no WiFi and barely any phone signal, this is a place where switching off comes naturally.

Inside, the cabin is simple, cosy and thoughtfully equipped for a comfortable stay in nature. The bed can be arranged as a king size or twins, while a log burner keeps things wonderfully snug when the temperature drops. There’s also a walk-in shower and everything you need for an easy escape, with linen, towels, firewood, basic kitchen supplies, tea and coffee all provided, alongside a few local treats to welcome you on arrival.

Step outside and you have your own private deck tucked amongst the trees. Start slow mornings here with coffee and birdsong before heading out to explore, then return for long, lazy afternoons in the valley. When hunger strikes, cook dinner over the open fire and eat outside in the fresh Dartmoor air. Later, fill the outdoor bath, sink into the warm water and watch the stars emerge overhead. The lack of digital distractions only adds to the experience, encouraging you to read, talk, wander and simply enjoy having nowhere else to be.

Orchard cabin is also a lovely base for exploring Dartmoor on foot. Wander through ancient woodland, seek out a wild swimming spot in the River Burn or stride straight onto the open moor. Three country pubs can be reached on moorland walks, giving you a rewarding destination for an afternoon ramble. The historic market town of Tavistock is around seven miles away, while Brentor and its striking hilltop church are another local highlight. And if you’d rather leave the car behind, the 118 bus between Okehampton and Tavistock stops at the top of the lane.
