North Bovey, Devon
Escape to the countryside of Dartmoor and this stunning cottage with lots of extras - including free use of a spa, gym and swimming pool
Surely one of the south west’s most beautiful country cottages, Moorland View has romance running right through it. From little touches like scented candles and dressing gowns to big plusses like the use of nearby Bovey Castle’s spa and pool, there is a lot to like about this two-bedroom thatched cottage amongst the hills of Dartmoor.
It’s no wonder Moorland View Cottage has caught the eye of style magazines. With its own rose garden, it looks pretty outside as well as inside, where an open inglenook fireplace warms the cosy sitting room. There’s a Sonos digital music system, TV, DVD and Wi-Fi to keep you entertained (along with plenty of firewood).
The kitchen and dining area fit perfectly with the aesthetic, and all sorts of things are waiting for you – from a bottle of wine and tea and coffee to marshmallows to toast on the fire. If cooking is not for you, a private chef, farm shop deliveries, oven-ready meals and West Country hampers can be arranged. Complimentary unpacking of supermarket delivery prior to arrival is on offer. The Michelin Star restaurant at Gidleigh Park is around 6 miles away. That’s got to be worth booking for a special evening together.
Another treat is the antique chic of the bathroom, with the vintage free-standing bath tub taking pride of place. An ornately framed mirror and White Company toiletries are just some of the luxury accents in this room, which serves a pair of equally beautiful bedrooms. Both have king-size beds (one can be converted to two singles) and first-rate furnishings you will wish you had at home.
For the ultimate in relaxation, take advantage of free use of the Bovey Castle facilities, including a pool, gym, spa, steam room, sauna and hot tub. There’s even tennis courts and a golf course, and all just five minutes’ drive away. The area’s pretty villages and rugged landscape make walking all the more rewarding, and you can bring a small dog to enjoy them too.
Guests will also make the most of the complimentary breakfast which includes chunky, home-made organic granola, dairy yoghurt, a bowl of fresh fruit, just-baked artisan bread, farmhouse butter, fruity preserves, freshly-ground coffee, a large selection of teas and a glass bottle of fresh milk from the local dairy.
Around 15 miles south west of Exeter, Moorland View Cottage is within easy reach of the city, but lies deep within the wonderfully rural Dartmoor National Park. It would be a shame to stay in Devon without visiting its beautiful coast, and English Riviera favourites like Dawlish and Teignmouth are around 45 minutes’ drive from Moorland View. There's also a cracking pub nearby called The Ring of Bells. This beautiful thatched 13th century pub serves delicious food and has fantastic rural charm thanks to its wooden beams, wobbly walls, wood-burning stoves, West Country ales, and of course its lovely pub garden.
We told you there was a lot to like… Book yourselves into Moorland View Cottage and enjoy one unforgettable stay.
