Surely one of the South West’s most beautiful country cottages, Moorland View has romance running right through it. From little touches like scented candles and dressing gowns to big plusses like the use of nearby Bovey Castle’s spa and pool, there is a lot to like about this two-bedroom thatched cottage, set amongst wooded hills in Dartmoor National Park.
It’s no wonder Moorland View Cottage has caught the eye of style magazines. With its own rose garden, it looks pretty outside as well as inside, where a romantic log burning stove warms the cosy sitting room. Firewood and marshmallows for toasting are included. For nights in, there’s a pop-up home cinema loaded with Netflix and Amazon Prime, Sonos digital music system, TV, iPad and Wi-Fi.
The kitchen and dining area fit perfectly with the aesthetic, and all sorts of luxurious things are waiting for you – from a welcome bottle of wine and complimentary basket of local goodies for your arrival. If cooking is not for you, a private chef, farm shop deliveries, oven-ready meals and West Country hampers can be arranged. There's also a cracking pub in the village called The Ring of Bells, which serves delicious food and has fantastic rural charm thanks to its wooden beams, wobbly walls, wood-burning stoves, West Country ales, and lovely pub garden. For a special treat, Bovey Castle and Gidleigh Park are both close by.
Another treat is the antique chic of the bathroom, with the vintage free-standing bath tub taking pride of place. White Company toiletries are just some of the luxury accents in this room, which serves a pair of equally beautiful bedrooms. Both have king-size beds and first-rate furnishings you will wish you had at home. The main bedroom has epic views of Dartmoor from padded window seats. See if you can spot wild ponies on the hills through the cottage’s binoculars.
For the ultimate in relaxation, take advantage of free use of the Bovey Castle facilities, including a pool, gym, spa, steam room, sauna and hot tub. There’s even tennis courts and a golf course - all just five minutes’ drive away, or a pretty 10-minute walk along the river. The area’s idyllic villages and rugged landscape make walking all the more rewarding, and you can bring a small dog to enjoy them too.
A variety of extras are on offer, including honeymoon packages, oven-ready meals and delicious breakfasts, which include chunky, home-made organic granola, dairy yoghurt, a bowl of fresh fruit, just-baked artisan bread, farmhouse butter, fruity preserves, freshly-ground coffee, a large selection of teas and a glass bottle of fresh milk from the local dairy. ??Around 15 miles south west of Exeter, Moorland View Cottage is within easy reach of the city, but lies deep within the wonderfully rural Dartmoor National Park. It would be a shame to stay in Devon without visiting its beautiful coastline. English Riviera favourites like Dawlish and Teignmouth are around 45 minutes’ drive from Moorland View, whilst the pretty pastel-hued yachtie town of Salcombe and its white sandy coves are an hour away.
