Just off the Norfolk coast, you’ll find Mill Farm’s Eco Barn, a fantastic option for holidaymakers who are environmentally-conscious. This contemporary, open-plan and spacious holiday home offers guests a whole host of modern luxuries while keeping its environmental impact to a minimum. Mill Farm uses natural, local and reclaimed building materials and harvests rainwater for toilets and washing machines. Their green energy tariff means that the electricity supplied is carbon neutral and heating and hot water are provided via a biomass boiler. You’ll find energy efficient appliances throughout and eco-friendly cleaning products are used.
All this focus on the environment doesn’t mean you have to compromise on comfort. Everything has been thought of from the black-out blinds in the bedrooms to the luxurious underfloor heating. Downstairs, you’ll find a huge open-plan living, kitchen and dining area, all beautifully furnished and featuring exposed brickwork and beams. There are comfy sofas gathered around a wood-burning stove and a flatscreen TV in the living area. Plenty of entertainment is provided in the form of board games, speakers, books and a selection of films.
The modern kitchen is fully-equipped with all the essential appliances and utensils for a self-catering holiday and you’ll find a food basket full of local produce on your arrival to get you started. There’s a breakfast bar and a large dining table made from reclaimed teak with plenty of room for everyone to enjoy a delicious dinner together. Also on the ground floor is a handy boot room for storing all of your outdoor gear, an extra fridge-freezer and facilities for washing and drying clothes.
Eco Barn has four bedrooms, two on the ground floor and two upstairs. Downstairs, you’ll find Paddocks bedroom which is a comfortable twin room. This room features comfy single beds, generous built-in storage and charming views over the paddocks. The downstairs wetroom is just next door with a shower. Farmland bedroom with its beautiful views over the fields can either be made up as a twin or a super king room. A handcrafted window seat provides a peaceful spot to enjoy a book or to simply soak up the views. This bedroom also has an ensuite bathroom with a shower.
Head upstairs to find the final two bedrooms and the family bathroom. The Lighthouse bedroom can also be made up as a twin or a super kind and enjoys stunning views out to the sea and the lighthouse. This bedroom has a contemporary ensuite bathroom and heaps of built in storage. The final bedroom, Windmill bedroom, has a luxurious king size bed and French doors leading out to a Juliette balcony. From the balcony you can enjoy beautiful views over the Norfolk countryside. In the family bathroom you’ll find a bath and a separate shower with hot water provided by the biomass boiler.
Bi-fold doors lead out from the open-plan living space onto the beautiful south-facing courtyard garden where you can enjoy a meal together outside. There’s also a Games Barn with pool and table tennis. You can also explore the two and a half acre site which is a haven for wildlife with a pond, an orchard and paddocks managed to help wildflowers thrive. A footpath leads from Eco Barn straight out into open countryside and there’s plenty to explore along the beaches and in the Broads National Park. If you visit at the right time of year, you can visit the seal colony at Horsey Gap, just north of Winterton-on-Sea.
