Manshausen is a 55-acre stretch of land that is situated in the middle of the awe-inspiring Grøtøya strait in northern Norway. These two super-modern, striking tower cabins offer you and your loved one a peaceful, unique stay in the heart of some of Scandinavia’s most beautiful scenery.
These two superb cabins have been designed by the architect Snorre Stinessesn and are nicely placed on the old stone pier that provides you with a beautiful and private waterfront location. As you approach you will be wowed by the striking exteriors which combine nicely with the breathtaking scenery.
Stepping inside, each of the cabins has a modern interior with huge walls of glass that offer panoramic views across the water. The first floor of your cabin has a comfortable seating area with a giant sofa sitting in front of the window. This is the perfect place to unwind with your morning coffee whilst taking in your surroundings. Also on this level is a fully-equipped bathroom and a coffee machine and bookshelf. There’s also a quaint separate guest bed beneath the stairs, just in case you have an additional guest with you.
Heading up to the second floor will take you to the fabulous bedroom, which has a full glass roof and front, making it an amazing spot to stargaze at night. You might even be lucky enough to spot the Northern Lights!
The bedroom is home to a super-comfy double bed and there’s also a small, pull-out desk with a chair should you need to catch up on some emails during your stay. If the weather’s warm you can also step out onto your French balcony, which faces east offering lovely views of the morning sunrise.
Guests are provided with breakfast, lunch and a three-course dinner at the onsite restaurant, all of which are included in the cost of the stay. The restaurant uses as much local and ecological produce as possible and fish is a big part of the menu, with the team trying to catch as much of the fish on the menu as they can themselves. Some local meats like moose and reindeer are also on our menu at times.
When it comes to filling your days, if you can tear yourself away from that stunning view, then there’s lots to do! The surrounding area, both on land and on the bigger islands nearby, offers great hikes for all levels and difficulties. Trips range from easy strolls on the islands Måløya and Grøtøya to spectacular and breathtaking traverses, all of which are within the immediate vicinity of Manshausen. There are also opportunities to fish and dive in the clear water that surrounds you, or head underground to the intriguing ‘troll cave’. If you want to ski, the best season for ski trips is March to April.
