Step back in time in this traditional Cornish cottage steeped in history. Dating back as for as the 1600’s, Manor Cottage offers a peaceful and unique sanctuary that is part of an ancient and ancestral family home.
The cottage has been owned by the Tamblyn family since 1860, and they still live in the main house to this day. In the 1960’s they renovated a redundant old railway carriage and let it out as a self-catering cottage, so you can be pretty sure that “first class” hospitality is available at all times.
Manor Cottage offers a beautiful mix of charming original features with contemporary additions and industrial lighting. With low beams, 3 foot thick walls and an abundance of original rustic features, Manor Cottage is the perfect spot to take a break from civilisation. Be sure to explore every nook and cranny of this magical house at your own pace.
Picture yourself sipping your morning coffee in the cosy but well equipped kitchen, whilst enjoying the views over the surrounding meadows. Or step through the french doors into the walled garden to breathe in the country air as you plan how to spend you day. You may even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of their very own resident chickens and doves as they saunter through the walled garden, made from the ruins of the original buildings.
If the weather takes a turn for the worse, settle down in front of the wood burner and take the time to finish that novel you’ve been promising yourself. Leave your shoes at the door, and snuggle up with your significant other on the sumptuous leather sofa. Perhaps you could pop on the DVD player or TV and just relax. Or if you are feeling so inclined you could even tinkle the ivories on the piano that takes pride of place in the cottage.
Offering 3 beautifully decorated bedrooms, Manor Cottage can comfortably accommodate 5 adults and a baby in double, twin and single bedrooms. With Victorian style bed frames, stone flooring and original fireplaces you really will feel transported back in time. You can do your bit for sustainability too, as solar panels, wind turbines, biomass boiler with copper pipes artfully weaving through the cottage and green electricity means staying at manor cottage leaves only a gentle footprint.
Make memories with your loved ones in this magical cottage location, close to the enchanting towns of both Fowey and Lostwithiel. Take long walks in the surrounding hills and valleys, or roll up your trousers and take a paddle in the clear waters and hidden coves that surround this mostly undiscovered corner of the county. Then head back for a leisurely evening meal in the homely dining room with its solid wooden table and natural stone flooring.
There is a huge private lawn behind Manor Cottage which is exclusively for guests. It is set within the recently restored walls of an ancient medieval walkway. Deckchairs are provided along with a picnic table, making it a perfect spot for sunbathing, and for children to safely play.
Along with therapeutic massage, a number of other creative and wellbeing workshops are run through the year including Family Sketch Clubs during the summer months, Introduction to Massage Courses, al fresco yoga sessions and floral workshops - check in with Tia to find out what’s happening during your stay.
Opposite Manor Cottage you’ll find the owner’s son Otto’s little farm shop selling home-made preserves and fresh eggs from the chickens that roam free-range around the farm; and from your cottage window you are likely to spot the family's ponies grazing in the meadows.
However you chose to spend your time at Manor Cottage, as soon as you wander across the cobbles to this stunning holiday home, you will start to feel relaxed and ready to breathe out.

Have you stayed here?
Leave a reviewWell what can we say? It was just brilliant! Absolutely loved the cottage and the eclectic mixture of old and new decor with modern conveniences, we both fell in love with it. Tia and the Tamblyn family are lovely, friendly and helpful. We got the impression that they really wanted us to have a great holiday and would happily do anything they could to facilitate that. The setting is fantastic too, with chickens roaming around freely and lots of land to explore around the farm with suggested walks in the very comprehensive and helpful welcome folder. I would wholeheartedly recommend staying here. Indeed we hope to be able to go back at some point!
