Magic Wood

Tucked into a hillside at the edge of ancient woodland, Magic Wood was built with sustainability at its heart - constructed from locally sourced timber, with a super-insulated shell designed to tread as lightly on the land as possible. It’s easy to settle in, but never easy to leave.

Powered by solar energy, warmed by a wood-burning stove, and fitted with a compost toilet, Magic Wood doesn't simply borrow the label, it’s a true off-grid retreat. The result is a cabin that feels as much a part of the landscape as the trees that surround it.

Step inside, and the first thing you notice is the silence. Then the view. The large window beside the bed frames a sweeping panorama of rolling Derbyshire hills, dry stone walls, and open sky - a scene that shifts from misty green at dawn to golden at sunset.

Pour a coffee, settle into the window seat, and watch kestrels hunting above the wildflower meadows below. This is the kind of place where an hour passes before you remember to check your phone - and then decide not to.

The cabin is compact but considered. A luxurious bed sits beside that enormous window, so you wake up to the valley view each morning. The wood-burning stove makes winter stays wonderfully cosy, and the well-equipped kitchenette means you can cook a proper meal during your stay.

Outside, your private deck is the place to be at golden hour. Pour a glass of wine, put your feet up, and watch the buzzards circling overhead, with no neighbours in sight.

At Magic Wood, you’re in the heart of the Peak District National Park, with some of England’s finest walking right from the door. The ridge paths of Mam Tor and Kinder Scout are within easy reach, and the market town of Bakewell is a short drive away. Head there for supplies and to try its famous pudding. Chatsworth House is also just down the road for a grander day out.
