Head through the private electric gate, across the gravelled drive, and park outside the doors of Lexington House, a stunning and luxurious barn conversion only 500 metres from the shores of Lake Windermere. This lovely five star barn conversion is the perfect choice for a family holiday or a group of friends seeking an opulent Lake District retreat close to fabulous boutique shops, bars and restaurants.

Kick off your shoes and head through to the light and airy lounge with its parquet flooring, throw yourself on to the chesterfield sofas and get someone to light the log burner. This is a cosy home from home, beautifully decorated to a very high standard where you can kick back with a welcome glass of fizz and enjoy the attention to detail. The hosts have provided lots of coffee table books for you to leaf through and the walls are adorned with interesting local photography and art. Plump cushions and warm woollen throws make this the place to gather together for a film with the wood burner crackling away making everything toasty and warm.

The kitchen is modern and stylish with integrated appliances, a small central prep island and a large breakfast bar where you can gather for that first feed of the day. It comes fully equipped with everything you could need. If you fancy eating in informal surroundings then you'll love the bespoke slate topped dining table set into a bay window in the living room, with lovely views of the garden and bench seating. Think long lazy suppers with the log burner for warmth and intimate cosy seating.

When it's time to sleep you'll have three luxurious ensuite bedrooms to choose from. There's one king size and two super-king size (one of which can be made into a twin) and all have Egyptian cotton sheets and thick warm duvets. Each room has its own style with varying colours and décor, reminiscent of a five star hotel. For those with mobility issues there is a room on the ground floor whilst the other two are upstairs. The ensuites all have showers and one of them also boasts a corner bath perfect for a soak after a long breezy walk. Big fluffy towels are included and can be kept nice and warm on the heated towel rails.

Enjoy breakfast in the kitchen, or on a sunny morning take it out to the fabulous courtyard where you can relax around the alfresco dining table or get comfy on the outdoor sofas overlooking the woodland. In the evening you can light up the outdoor fireplace and sit beneath the stars drinking hot chocolate and playing a game of cards whilst putting the world to rights.

The barn is only 500 metres from the shores of Lake Windermere where you can take in the tranquil views and walk to your heart's content, or hire a row boat and explore. Another option is booking one of the elegant cruises on the Lake Windermere Steamers – a stylish way to see the lakes! You might like to take a stroll into the vibrant village of Bowness (a short 250 metres away) where you'll find an eclectic mix of boutique shops, fantastic bars and some great restaurants including Porthole and Bodegas & Sol for excellent tapas and The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant. Or just pop into one of the many lakeland pubs for a pint and a bite. The hosts recommend The Punch Bowl at Crosswaite or The Mason Arms for excellent gastro dining. Lexington House comes with an in-house concierge who can arrange catered dinners and activities ranging from 4x4 off-road driving to kayaking and so much more!

We stayed for a long weekend with friends who were first timers to the Lakes… the pre-stay messages with the property owner was helpful giving a comprehensive itinerary of every of thing to do and places to visit for all tastes… The property itself was not only immaculate (thanks Chez and team) but had everything you could possibly ask for - from egg cups to ice buckets in the kitchen to a stocked wood burner in the lounge … if you are cooking all you need to bring are your ingredients. We have no hesitation in recommending the property and are planning a return visit…

Perfectly presented, designed and laid out. The bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms are an excellent feature giving all guests privacy and a real touch of quality. The hosts communication was first class and always quick to respond. A 2 minute walk into the town and main driving routes to discover the hills are on the doorstep. A wonderful week thank you!
