Inside, clever use of space keeps things neat and tidy. The dining table and benches give way to a fold-down double bed, complete with a Devon wool duvet and mattress topper. There’s a cushioned daybed for stretching out with a book (which also can turn into a bed for a small child), while the woodburner keeps chilly evenings toasty.
The compact kitchen has an electric hob, fridge, kettle and toaster, plus a small oven built into the woodburner. Breakfast provisions from the farm shop are included on arrival, with vegetarian and vegan options available. An en-suite shower room comes stocked with Bramley toiletries.
Outside, cook supper over the kadai fire pit’s barbecue grill, settle into a lounge chair or slip into the wood-fired hot tub. With the countryside spread out before you, there’s no reason to rush.
When you fancy exploring, the Quantock Hills offer walks through ancient woodland and across open hills, with plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. Venture further for Exmoor’s moorland and wooded valleys, explore the rock pools at Kilve Beach or spend an afternoon wandering around Dunster’s castle and medieval village.
Closer to home, the Rising Sun is around a ten-minute walk from the farm through fields and quiet lanes. Book a table for supper or Sunday lunch, or pick up local produce at Rumwell Farm Shop for an evening back at the hut. Good food, fresh air and nowhere else you need to be.
