Hidden in a beautiful meadow presided over by a magnificent ancient oak tree, Camp Mela in the heart of rural North Norfolk is the perfect space to slow down, relax and recharge.
Camp Mela is a small, low impact site located on the beautiful Salle Moor Farm estate just outside the historic market town of Reepham, a few miles from the Norfolk coast. Set in a peaceful two acre meadow, you’ll find five traditional, hand-built tipis carefully placed with a generous amount of space between each, to ensure privacy and tranquillity.
The tipis are based on the original Sioux design and have wooden floors and are double-lined for extra warmth. With tall spires and a diameter of six metres, there’s a wonderful sense of space inside. Each tipi sleeps two, with either a double or king-size bed, a proper mattress, feather duvets and Egyptian cotton linen. You'll find throws, blankets, solar lights and lanterns for additional comfort and warmth. Fluffy cotton towels and organic toiletries are also provided.
Outside each tipi is your own private fire bowl barbecue where you can cook up some local produce to the sound of birdsong and the smell of wood smoke. Camp Mela also has a central fire pit and grill, created out of an upturned fallen oak, a space for everyone to gather as the sun goes down and the stars come out. You'll also find a well-equipped handmade kitchen wagon for all guests to use, with an alfresco dining area beneath a wide canvas awning.
Hot showers and organic toiletries are located in the wash house and there's an additional outside wash space too, plus clean and tidy compost loos.
At Camp Mela you won't go hungry, there's plenty of local produce to enjoy right on the doorstep. Start the day as you mean to go on with a breakfast basket brimming with tasty, locally sourced, super fresh produce, all you need for a full English. And for lunch and dinner all you have to do is stroll next door to Salle Moor Market Garden to buy delicious organic vegetables and salads. Homemade sourdough pizzas and other vegan and veggie dishes are available from fellow farm residents, All Day Brewing Company, and from Tues to Sat you can even pick up a few home brewed beers.
Camp Mela is located in the heart of Norfolk, but only about two and a half hour's drive from London, making it perfect for a lazy long weekend, or a longer stay. Surrounded by countryside and with a network of footpaths, the Marriott’s Way cycle path and bridleways it's easy to get out and explore. It's a landscape of open fields, woodland and wetlands with the remains of ancient settlements still visible in some places. You can spot local wildlife, from kingfishers, red kites, owls and herons to deer. The historic market town of Reepham is just one mile away, with a number of good pubs, restaurants, cafes and independent shops. Also within easy reach are the Norfolk Broads, the medieval city of Norwich and the beautiful Norfolk coast.
Each tipi has its own fire pit /bbq and seating area. A large communal fire pit grill and bench seating. Handcrafted kitchen Cabin Wagon with terrace. Large live-edge dining table and bench seating.
