Deep in the Devon countryside, surrounded by 100 acres of woodland and grottos worthy of a fairytale, Hotel Endsleigh provides a luxurious escape for its guests. This Grade I listed house was originally built for the Duke of Bedford, who owned a third of the county, as his hunting and fishing lodge. There are now 19 elegantly furnished bedrooms and suites which are havens from busy everyday life.
Choose between classic double bedrooms, large rooms with beautiful views over the gardens, or suites in the thatched gatekeeper’s lodge and the stables. All the rooms have been thoughtfully decorated with relaxing colour palettes and are completely unique. You’ll find beautiful hand-painted wallpapers, luxurious beds and rolltop bathtubs. If you choose the suite in the gatekeeper's lodge you’ll have the added luxuries of a private garden and a woodburning stove.
Outside there are over 100 acres of gardens to explore. These stunning grounds were designed by Humphry Repton 200 years ago. Formal gardens surround the house and run down to the River Tamar. Venture further from the house and you’ll find some delightful picnic spots by the streams and trees from around the world in the arboretum. There are several waterfalls to find and you might even stumble across a hidden grotto. To make the most of the garden, you can book a tour with the Head Gardener and discover all of its secrets.
There’s plenty to do, even without leaving the estate. The River Tamar runs through the grounds and offers some of the best salmon fishing in England. Falconry sessions can be arranged in the garden or you can join the Hardicott Shoot which uses the drives around the edge of the estate.
Venture further afield and explore Dartmoor National Park with endless opportunities for picturesque walks through woodlands, over rolling hills and across rugged moorland. The charming town of Tavistock is just 15 minutes away from the estate with markets selling art and local produce. Head the other way and you’ll come across Coombeshead Farm which is home to a wonderful restaurant that brings food straight from the farm to the table.
