Home Farm is the kind of place where you feel yourself slow down almost as soon as you arrive. Set within its own small forest just outside Oban, this restored 1600’s and Arts and Crafts house blends heritage with a calm Highland setting. Tall windows draw in that soft silver and lilac light the west coast is known for, and it’s not unusual to spot deer at the treeline or catch an owl passing overhead at dusk. It’s quiet, comfortable and surrounded by nature, with a real sense of privacy.
Inside, every room has been thoughtfully styled. Local artwork hangs above bespoke furniture, open fires warm the living spaces and hand-woven tweeds echo the landscape outside. Four ensuite double bedrooms sit throughout the house, each with its own character. The Douglas Fir room has a four-poster bed and generous windows, Roost features a curtained croft bed and a cast iron bath from 1927, Jaggy Bush offers 1600’s charm and warm tweed window seats, while Wren is a small, inviting room filled with Scottish artwork and woodland views.
The downstairs twin or super-king room adds flexibility for families or groups, and the snug is ideal for a quiet moment with the record player and an open fire. The living and dining room is a bright, welcoming space with Douglas fir floors and an open fire for long, relaxed evenings. There’s also a cinema-quality projector for film nights. The large farmhouse kitchen is bright and sociable, with a Rangemaster cooker, ample prep space and windows looking out over the courtyard.
Outside, the four-acre private garden is surrounded by forest, with a covered terrace for alfresco meals whatever the weather and a first-floor balcony perfect for morning coffee. Red squirrels often appear on the lawn, and the peaceful woodland setting means you’re never far from a moment of stillness.
Despite the secluded feel, Oban is just a country walk away. The town’s harbour is filled with seafood stalls, ferries heading to Mull and the Inner Hebrides, and plenty of places to explore. You can take the scenic train from Glasgow, follow coastal paths or hop on a boat to discover pristine beaches and island landscapes. Home Farm offers a gentle mix of Highland quiet and the best of the west coast right on your doorstep.
