Located in Perthshire in the beautiful Scottish countryside are the Hobbits Howfs. The Burrow and Bagend are built right into the hillside and allows guests to feel like they’re truly escaping into Tolkien’s fantasy world.
These hobbit holes are constructed from natural wood and stone, are adorned with grass roofs, and are accessed via pretty round doors. Each holiday home sleeps two guests, who can live the life of a hobbit in these two cosy and comfy properties.
Located completely off grid at the Craighead glamping site, as impressive as The Burrow and Bagend look from the outside, they will transport those staying into The Lord of the Rings once they step inside. The doors, windows, and furniture are all handmade and provide a completely bespoke experience.
There are nooks and crannies everywhere inside, with wooden beams overhead, flagstone flooring underfoot, and exposed stonework throughout. A wood burning stove ensures everything is warm and toasty, with a couple of comfy armchairs sitting alongside where you can wile away the evenings. In the kitchen is a double ring gas hob and hand carved wooden sink. There is also access to a fridge and freezer adjacent to the car park.
The rustic double bed is handmade and provides great opportunities for stargazing through the window above it. Elsewhere in the hobbit hole is a shower room with another hand carved wooden sink, while the eco-friendly compost toilet is located next door.
Outside is the courtyard garden with wooden furniture, which is the perfect place to sit and enjoy the stunning views of the Ochils - making it further feel like you have escaped to The Shire. The fire pit and BBQ allows guests to test their al fresco cooking skills and keeps things warm long into the evening.
Craighead has two acres of grounds and gardens and is home to an array of wildlife. On site there are horses, highland cows, ryeland sheep, ponies, donkeys, turkeys, ducks, geese, and much more. Venture a little further afield and discover walks and cycling routes to explore in this amazing part of Scotland.
