The Heron is tucked away in a quiet corner of Colber Farm in Dorset and is perfect for a couple or small family wanting an eco-friendly holiday in the rambling countryside. Completely off-grid and powered by its own solar array, this delightful little hut manages to be almost entirely carbon neutral whilst still maintaining a truly luxurious glamping experience.
The interior is simply and elegantly decorated with a fully equipped kitchen that has a two ring gas stove and all the paraphernalia you'll need to whip up a feast indoors but, weather permitting, you'll probably want to channel your inner Bear Grylls and make use of the fabulous fire bowl outside that also doubles as a BBQ.
There's a wood burner keeping the whole place cosy and delightful so you can snuggle up on the sofa and read a good book. Alternatively, the main bedroom boasts a king-sized bed with a DVD projector on the wall where you can bury yourself beneath the duvet and watch films to your heart's content.
A second sleeping area can be found in the hayloft, two meters above floor level, where you can pop the kids in two singles or push them together as a double for friends.
There's a gas powered shower and an en suite toilet and your hosts have provided locally made toiletries for you to enjoy. And whilst it's always nice to have a hot shower you will probably want to head outside and sink into the brilliant roll-top copper bath nestled beneath a couple of beautiful Hornbeam trees. This should obviously be done with champagne (or tipple of your choice). The outdoor living area also has a dining table, comfy chairs and the previously mentioned fire pit and bath. All in all, rather lovely.
The owners do a range of breakfast and food hampers, all stocked with local produce. Details of these are sent out once you have booked. If you don't fancy cooking then there are lots of great options locally including The Bull Tavern and The White Horse for good pub food and Plumber Mannor for fine dining. The hosts also recommend Joshua's Cafe for excellent cake and hot drinks.
