The details

Hidden amongst rows of apple trees in a modern Somerset cider orchard, these two beautifully designed shepherd’s huts offer a romantic escape where you can switch off, get back to nature and soak beneath the stars in your own galvanised outdoor bath. Add birdsong in the morning, deer wandering along the valley ridges at dusk and glasses of fine cider around the fire and you have all the ingredients for a magical Somerset stay.

Tucked away in a secret valley between Bruton and Castle Cary, both huts are identical except in colour – Brown's is black and Chisel is silver. Privately positioned amongst the apple trees, they allow you to settle into the peace and quiet of your surroundings. A fire pit is provided for outdoor cooking (grill and charcoal provided upon request), and there is an abundance of logs beneath the hut. Each hut comes with two Adirondacks chairs for ultimate outdoor relaxed seating.

Step inside and the huts are every bit as inviting. Beautifully finished interiors feature a calming colour palette, natural touches and a quaint equipped kitchenette where you can prepare simple meals, morning coffees and evening drinks. Enough coffee, tea and milk is provided to start you off. There is a mini butler’s sink and mini fridge. You can also purchase supper boxes for your stay from £30 for two, with children's portions at £10 per head.

At one end of the hut, there is a modern ensuite bathroom with rain shower and traditional ‘up the wall’ WC, so you have all the comforts you need without losing that lovely sense of being immersed in nature. Bodywash is provided in the shower from local luxury brand Commune. Generously sized, stripy Piglet in Bed towels also provided.

At the other end of each hut, a raised king size bed deck provides a cosy sleeping spot for two adults. Beds are dressed in feather duvets, pillows and Piglet in Bed sheets. A window alongside the bed frames views of the orchard, so you can wake slowly to the sight of apple branches dancing in the wind. Beneath the bed is a clever children’s cubby that can be made up for two children aged between two and 11. This means that, while the huts are perfect for romantic couples’ escapes and solo travellers, they’re equally suited to small families wanting a memorable countryside break.

You’ll feel wonderfully tucked away here, yet cosmopolitan Bruton and charming Castle Cary are just over five minutes away. Spend your days exploring Somerset’s glorious countryside, discover the independent shops, galleries and places to eat in Bruton or wander around pretty Castle Cary. With railway stations in both towns, your peaceful orchard hideaway is also surprisingly easy to reach.
