For groups of family and friends seeking space, calm and connection, there are few better places to retreat than Foldyard House, a beautifully converted barn set deep in the peaceful East Yorkshire countryside near Beverley and Hornsea. Surrounded by winding country lanes, wildflowers, trees and its own private paddock, this is a place where the pace softens, the skies stretch wide and everyday life gently falls away.
Sleeping up to 16 guests, Foldyard House is ideal for celebratory getaways, mindful group retreats and, in particular, hen weekends — which are very much a speciality here. The barn is largely laid out across the ground floor, creating an easy, sociable flow through generous living spaces filled with natural light. Exposed beams, brickwork and floor-to-ceiling windows bring the outdoors in, making it effortless to gather together while still finding moments of quiet.
At the heart of the barn is a thoughtfully equipped kitchen designed for slow breakfasts and celebratory feasts alike. Alongside a double Rangemaster, dishwasher, washer and dryer, you’ll find a coffee machine with milk frother, crepe machine and even a hot chocolate station — all part of the feeling that this is a house that’s thought of everything. A large dining room overlooks the gated courtyard garden, where everyone can sit together long into the evening.
When it’s time to unwind, sink into the sitting room sofas beside the open fire, enjoy a film night with the full Sky package including Disney, Netflix and Prime, or head to the games room with its pool table. There’s also a cinema-style setup, a Wii console with microphones for singalongs, board games for all ages and outdoor lawn games for sunny afternoons.
Seven beautifully finished bedrooms are spread across two levels, all dressed in high-quality pure cotton bed linen and hotel-quality mattresses. The result is deep, uninterrupted sleep after days spent outdoors. Dogs are very welcome too, with two staying free and more by arrangement.
Outside, wellbeing takes centre stage. The enclosed courtyard garden is home to a covered six-seater hot tub and a large wooden sauna, perfect for switching off beneath the big East Riding skies. With little light pollution, star gazing here is exceptional, and on clear nights the aurora is often visible. Dawn and dusk invite quiet moments — perhaps a beach walk to watch the sun rise or set over the North Sea, just ten minutes away.
The surrounding area lends itself to mindful days out and gentle adventure. Local walks begin from the door, birdwatching is superb with RSPB Bempton Cliffs around 30 minutes away — famous for puffins and dolphins — and Hornsea Mere offers paddle boating on calm waters. Yoga sessions, wild swimming, body boarding, foraging experiences and in-house pampering can all be organised locally. Golf, horse riding, sailing and horse racing are close by, while historic Beverley is around 20 minutes away and York just an hour.
With a free EV charger, quality welcome pack and a setting that encourages you to slow down and reconnect, Foldyard House is a restorative rural escape — whether you’re celebrating, unwinding or simply breathing a little deeper together.

Leave a reviewWe stayed at Foldyard House for Hen Party of 15. Firstly the house was immaculately clean and it is even more stunning in person. I have never stayed somewhere that provides so much to do. We really could have done with staying longer! They truly have thought of everything. From booking, Andy and Jude were so helpful. We would all go back in a heartbeat and really do recommend booking this beautiful house.

We have just got back from the best hen weekend at Foldyard House! The house and gardens are absolutely gorgeous and perfect for our group of 15 hens! We held a festival themed hen do on the Saturday and Jude and Andy (Managers) went out of their way to help us set up and ensure everything was perfect in preparation for it. The house was immaculately clean and the kitchen and dining facilities were brilliant! The check in and check our process was also very easy! The owners separated all beds to be singles, so it was perfect for our group! I would highly recommend the venue for any future hens or family gatherings/parties! Thanks for a great weekend and all your help Andy and Jude!
