Just a few miles inland from the Sussex coast, the Flint Barns enjoy the verdant surroundings of the Rathfinny Wine Estate near Polegate. Oenophile or not, everyone’s welcome to unwind with a bed and breakfast stay.
Flint Barns has been described is like a home away from home, due to its plethora of accommodation choices to suit groups of all sizes. Book a double or twin room and relax and unwind in peace. Each room has its own unique style - think luxury mattresses, rustic stone walls and clean, stylish bathrooms.
Those heading out to walk the South Downs will be more than fortified by the food on offer at Flint Barns. The Rathfinny Wine Estate produces vintage Sussex Sparkling wine and still wines branded under the Cradle Valley brand. Guests at Flint Barns can join a winery tour and the estate also plays host to a number of other events throughout the year. The climate and soil here, as well as the estate’s south-facing aspect, are thought to be conducive to producing some of the best wines in England, so be sure to try a glass or two. Pop along to The Cellar Door, the site’s shop, for a tasting.
Just outside the village of Alfriston, the Flint Barns are easily accessed. Buses stop in the village around two miles away, or jump in a taxi from Polegate or Lewes train station and be there in 15-20 minutes. Those driving will find it easy enough to venture out to Brighton or Eastbourne, in the region of 30-40 minutes’ drive from Flint Barns, and you should be at Gatwick Airport within the hour.
Alfriston is a charming historic town that is really becoming a foodie destination and Rathfinny is the home of Sussex Sparkling winemaking. The vineyard also host seasonal events all year round celebrating food and Rathfinny sparkling wine pairings, from ‘Dine in the Vines’ and Sundowners in the summer, to harvest tours and winter packages in the winter.
