Ein Cynefin is not just a grand 19th century manor house – it’s a house with room for what matters. A Welsh manor house for gatherings, celebrations and the moments worth marking. From the moment you step beneath the glass dome of the double-height entrance hall and see the baby grand piano waiting beneath the sweeping staircase, you feel the scale of the place. The high ceilings, the generous proportions, the sense of breathing space – this is somewhere designed for being together, without being on top of each other.

This is a collector’s house, and that individuality is felt in every room. The walls are hung with an impressive collection of 20th and 21st century Welsh art, the kind of scale you would usually only see in a private gallery. Cushions and textiles by Melin Tregwynt add colour and texture, while carefully chosen antiques, including miners’ lamps, quietly celebrate Welsh heritage. It feels personal because it is personal. The owners have poured family stories into the details – even leaving you the ingredients and their Nain’s own Welsh cake recipe so you can bake a batch and make the kitchen smell like home.

There are three separate living rooms, each with its own mood. A cosy snug with a wood burning stove for quiet evenings, a light-filled morning room for coffee and conversation, and a formal drawing room with views over the fields. The contemporary kitchen is brilliantly equipped for big family meals, with a large dining table at its heart, while the formal dining room is made for long celebratory suppers, perhaps with a private chef at the helm.

Upstairs, five spacious bedrooms each have their own ensuite bathroom. Four offer double or king size beds and there is a twin room too, with space for additional children’s beds if needed. Baths are positioned to make the most of the countryside views and generous walk-in showers ensure everyone can refresh with ease. Multi-generational families return time and again, loving that children can be noisy downstairs while grandparents retreat to peace and quiet upstairs.

Outside, an acre of private gardens wraps around the house. Lawns stretch out on three sides for games and laughter, while the patio looks towards Moel Famau in the Clwydian Range. Pick apples from the orchard, forage for wild garlic and blackberries, light the BBQ and dine alfresco as the sun sets over rolling farmland.

When you do venture out, you’re perfectly placed. Loggerheads Country Park, Moel Famau and Talacre Beach are all within half an hour, while Eryri, Bodnant Gardens, Conwy Castle and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct make unforgettable day trips. Yet many guests find that the greatest luxury is simply staying put, closing the gates and enjoying the rare gift of space.
