• The chalet doesn’t have an open log fire, but the views and the light more than make up for this. And there is, of course, the wood-fired sauna outside.

Eco Lodge is a stunning designer ski chalet that is drenched with light through its giant, south-facing windows. The views are drop-dead spectacular, it has been stylishly and beautifully renovated, plus it has been built with commendable green technologies. This luxury ski chalet is, as its name suggests, fully self-sufficient and able to power itself.

Forget traditional chalet trimmings; Eco Lodge is modern with cutting-edge, designer fittings and furniture. Think bleached wood, polished chrome, leather, stone, glass and plenty of light.There are four beautiful, bright double bedrooms in this luxury ski chalet and one bunk room, with four bathrooms. The bunk room shares a bathroom with one of the doubles, making a family room. This bathroom has a bath, while the others all have showers. All are supplied with L’Occitane toiletries, slippers and fluffy gowns.

The standard of food is exceptional, on par with 1* Michelin status. A 4-course fine dining dinner is served on five nights, with two nights off for pizza or something else in town. Each dinner comes with carefully-selected house wines too. Breakfast of your choice is served daily and there are also homemade cakes for afternoon tea.

There is an outdoor hot tub on the lower terrace with jaw-dropping views of the Mont Blanc massif. Eco Lodge also has a scenic outdoor wood-fired barrel sauna.

Eco Lodge is located in the pretty, extremely smart hamlet of Les Nants in the Chamonix valley, just 1km from Chamonix town itself heading towards Argentiere. It is set back and up from the road, in a private position with wonderful south-facing, sunny, spectacular mountain views. The village of Les Praz and Chamonix are both less than 15 minutes away on foot, and the chalet is just 2 minutes from Brevent/La Flegere and only 10 minutes from Les Grands Montets.

Chamonix is a serious skier’s nirvana and world class ski resort. But while there is certainly lots of challenging terrain to tackle, intermediates have plenty to entertain them too and there really is something for all levels. For non-skiers, they can go up the vertiginous Aiguille du Midi lift to get jaw-dropping views from the top (and step out onto the glass-bottomed viewing platform), or they might like to pop into town for some shopping or to visit the Chamonix museum. They can also meet the skiers on the mountain for lunch, while there is heaps of snowshoeing to do in the valley plus trips further afield such as to the spa and hot springs at Pré St Didier through the Mont Blanc tunnel in Courmayeur.
