The Detail...
In the historic town centre of Ortygia, a charming and unspoilt island in the heart of Syracuse, stands Delo, an ancient Italian home painstakingly converted to create a stunning island getaway with all of the luxuries and amenities of the twenty first century. Connected by bridge to Sicily, Ortygia is a gem in the Mediterranean where the finest of authentic Italian cuisines, customs, and aesthetics can still be enjoyed. Sit in the traditional town square with an espresso or glass of local wine, and enjoy exploring the lanes and shopping streets of this Italian gem.
Delo itself has been lovingly converted from a much older house, creating a fascinating architectural marvel which stunningly blends ancient Italian island architecture with sleek, confident modern lines. The aesthetic inside is uncluttered and minimalist, with each room benefitting from a few classic pieces of furniture. The apartment sleeps four people between two double bedrooms, each benefitting from an en-suite full bathroom. With prior notice, a single bed can be made up in the living room to accommodate an additional guest. There is Wi-Fi throughout the apartment, as well as air conditioning, television, a fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. Services including a cook and daily cleaner can be arranged with prior notice.
Guests on Ortygia are drawn to the slower pace of life which this Syracusan idyll is known for. Between the beauty of the surrounding architecture and the location in the Mediterranean, most visitors are content to potter around the squares, markets and beaches of this paradise. For those looking to take in the local history and culture, check out the Cathedral of Syracuse which dates from the 7th Century, making it the oldest church in Europe. The unique Arethusa Fountain draws guests from all over the world and has inspired countless artists and writers. Take in unparalleled views of the Maddalena Peninsula from the Lungomare Alfeo, which runs along the seafront, and follow in the footsteps of Virgil, Ovid, Pindar, Milton and Pope, all of whom visited and described this magical island. Finish your day off with a meal at one of the island's many restaurants specialising in seafood and other South Italian delicacies.
