The details
Traditional and rural on the outside, opulent and luxurious on the inside, this high end double shepherd's hut at Dimpsey in Somerset gives guests the best of both worlds.
Comprised of two huts joined by a short glass walkway, one containing the kitchen and living area, and the other the bedroom and en suite bathroom, this deluxe rural retreat is really something special.
Surrounded by views of green fields and open space, the allure of Dimpsey Dapple shepherd's hut is immediately obvious upon arrival. Tucked away at the end of a lovely country lane in its own private field, the setting is secluded, with nothing but green views and wildlife to keep you company.
Inside the hut is spacious and stylish, with the interior walls painted a calm slate blue. The 18ft front hut contains the well-equipped kitchen, with fridge, electric hob, Belfast sink and everything you need to rustle up dinner for two. Beside the kitchen is the neat dining area, with views from the window over the rolling Blackdown Hills. The other half of this hut is a wonderfully cosy little snug, with an L-shaped sofa and a wood burning stove to keep you toasty and warm on even the coldest of nights, particularly when paired with a glass of a red and a good book.
The second 16ft hut contains the handmade bed, with luxurious Naturalmat mattress, while opposite you'll find a wardrobe and the generously sized ensuite shower room, complete with hand basin and proper flushing loo.
Step outside onto the deck, which is the perfect spot for a sunny morning coffee while you plan the day ahead, or for an evening glass of wine as the sun sets. The hut comes with its own outdoor pizza oven, so you can try out your alfresco culinary skills, with marshmallows toasted over the fire pit for pudding. You even have your own private sauna for added luxury and, on top of that, the owners also have on-site treatment rooms where you can book massages or facials (subject to availability).
To the side of Dimpsey Dapple you'll find the beautiful copper bathtub, just made for sinking into with tired limbs after a busy day. Take in the glorious countryside views as you soak, or light the lantern and watch the stars come out among the steam.
The farm itself is so old it was mentioned in the Domesday Book and can be found nestled on the Somerset/Devon border. The main attraction is the beautiful Blackdown Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Featuring epic scenery, historic sites and plenty of free roaming wildlife, it's a place to reset and unwind in nature. A visit to the farm would not be complete without trying out one of the many local pubs, all offering mouth-watering cuisine and a cosy atmosphere.
