A stunning Cornish retreat, Daphne Cottage is found in the heart of the North Helford village Mawan Smith, a stone’s throw away from the thriving harbour town of Falmouth. The property couldn’t be better located as a base from which to discover this wonderful part of the country, with idyllic countryside, rugged coastline and secluded coves all on your doorstep. After days spent soaking up the surroundings, the cottage is the perfect haven to return to.
At the heart of the home is a spacious open-plan living area, consisting of a lounge, kitchen and dining space. The lounge is ideal for cosy evenings spent snuggled up by the log burner with a good book or binging the latest Netflix series on the smart TV (Don’t worry about any buffering, the house is equipped with superfast WiFi). When it’s time to eat, guests can use the well-equipped kitchen to cook up a delicious meal, which can be shared at the dining table. The kitchen’s patio doors lead out onto the terrace and garden, where you’ll find plenty of outdoor furniture, a BBQ and parasol. It’s a lovely spot for relaxing in the late afternoon sun and enjoying alfresco evenings in the warmer months.
The cottage sleeps up to four in two bedrooms. They include one master bedroom with a king-size bed, smart TV and patio doors, and an additional bedroom with a king-size bed that can be set up as twins. Both rooms have premium mattresses and luxurious King of Cotton Egyptian sheets, all but guaranteeing a good night’s sleep. The shared bathroom has a walk-in rain shower and a separate bath, with high-quality Burlington fittings throughout and fluffy towels provided. Underfloor heating across the whole cottage keeps it warm all year round.
North Helford is a beautiful part of Cornwall and you’ll be spoilt for choices of things to do and see in the area. The pretty village of Manwan Smith has an excellent local pub and café, as well as a 15th-century church that sits on a cliff overlooking the mouth of the Helford River, the setting for one of Daphne du Maurier’s great love stories, Frenchman’s Creek. Why not paddle around the river’s famous creek or enjoy one of the serene boat trips sailing up the tranquil waters?
If you enjoy walking, you’ll be pleased to know that the Cornish South West Coast Path is just a mile from the cottage. The path offers plenty of accessible walks for all ages and abilities, and you’ll be rewarded with incredible views of the spectacular scenery. And of course, a trip to this part of Cornwall wouldn’t be complete without visiting the gorgeous town of Falmouth, home to a vibrant cultural scene and a bustling harbour full of excellent eateries.
