Tucked away just a stone’s throw from the medieval town of Cartmel in the Lake District, Crumble Cottage is a beautiful self-catering stone cottage that has been lovingly converted by the current owners from the large 17th Century Grade II listed barn. The barn has been split into two, with Crumble Cottage being next door to Upper Crumble.
The cottage is a magical and romantic place to stay, with a unique aesthetic which remains true to the authentic style of this area. The wildlife garden is picturesque and offers guests a wonderful place to relax in the summer. Everything in Crumble Cottage has been thought of to create a relaxing and luxurious atmosphere.
Guests can spread out in the open-plan, light-filled main living space, that is centrally heated by the wood-burning stove for extra cosiness. The feeling of peace is intensified by the interior finish of the pretty space.
The interior design is in-keeping with the local area with whitewashed stone, exposed timber beams, and modern farmhouse-style. Benefiting from an open plan layout, the kitchen-cum-living room is designed to capture the famous Cumbria light, which pours in through the expansive windows.
Guests can expect a well-appointed kitchen with a three-way microwave combination oven, in addition to a full range of similarly high-end kitchen appliances. Guests are also encouraged to help themselves to the herbs growing in front of the cottage.
The cottage’s proximity to the breath-taking beauty of the Lake District makes it an obvious choice for ramblers and outdoors enthusiasts looking to relax in romantic comfort after a long day spent outside. While the extraordinary topographical grandeur of the national park has long drawn walkers and artists from all over the world, there are also an increasingly broad range of additional attractions in this corner of the world. Guests are encouraged to take a boat trip around Windemere, which is very popular.
Cartmel is a a true foodie destination with some wonderful offerings. Simon Rogan’s two Michelin Star restaurant L’Enclume is situated in the nearby village of Cartmel, as well as sister establishment Rogan & Co, which has just won its first Michelen star. The Cartmel Coffee is also worth a visit, before heading to the high-end artisanal Unsworth Yard market, with a micro brewery, cheese shop, and wine bar. With a heated snug to enjoy your purchases, this makes for a lovely outing. Cartmel is also home of sticky toffee pudding! Pop in to the local shop to get a taste.

Leave a reviewWe had the most amazing stay at Crumble Cottage for a family wedding in Cartmel. Sarah and Stewart are the most helpful and attentive hosts. The cottage is so cosy and in lovely surroundings. We will definitely be back to stay again. Thank you!

I cannot recommend this place enough! We had the most gorgeous romantic break at Crumble Cottage. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, providing us with plenty of suggestions of places to eat in Cartmel - we loved Oscars that was suggested! - and things to do around. The cottage itself is the perfect size with a lovely large bathroom and a very cozy living room area and very clean. The fire is lovely and was perfect after a long walk. Even though the cottage is the middle building, we heard absolutely no noise from waiter side which was impressive. Great location- a lovely 15min walk into Cartmel, with lots of lovely places to eat, drink, and shop. Would definitely return!

We had a fantastic pre-Christmas break at the wonderful Crumble Cottage. Sarah and Stewart have done an amazing job with the cottage and it is decked out with everything you could possibly want for a short retreat for two. It's also beautifully decorated and a very luxurious hideaway in the countryside! There were bucket loads of thoughtful gestures like a couple of tasty mince pies waiting for us on arrival, which we loved eating in front of a roaring fire in the evening. We could find no fault with Crumble Cottage, our wonderful hosts, or its location. Thank you Sarah and Stewart for a fantastic break away - we can't wait for another visit!

We had such a wonderful stay at Crumble Cottage for our First Wedding Anniversary. The cottage has been lovingly refurbished whilst still maintaining a rustic charm. It's cosy and spotlessly clean and the facilities/appliances are of a really high standard. The kitchen has everything you'd need for cooking in as well as it being walking distance to Cartmel with lovely pubs and restaurants. It's a great location for exploring the Lake District and Sarah and Stewart are wonderful hosts with lots of knowledge of things to do both from the doorstep and further afield. We will definitely be back!

Lovely relaxing stay in Crumble Cottage. The cottage is cosy and very thoughtfully designed to maximise the space. The bathroom is beautiful and we slept really well and work to the sound of birdsong in the morning. The two outside seating areas meant we could enjoy the sunshine all day ..from morning coffee through to a glass wine in the evening. The location is ideal for wandering into Cartmel and there are lovely walks straight from the door. And to top it all our hosts, Sarah and Stuart, made us feel extremely welcome. What more could you ask for ..we'll be back!
