The details

Tucked away in a peaceful strip of woodland on the Crookston House Estate, these two bespoke shepherd’s huts offer a truly magical escape into nature. With no vehicular access and surrounded by rolling fields, The Resting House and Hodge Cairn feel wonderfully remote, allowing you to slow down and reconnect with the landscape. Each hut faces west, meaning long golden afternoons on the veranda and unforgettable evenings beneath vast, dark skies – with the occasional glimpse of the Aurora adding an extra touch of wonder.

Inside, both huts have been crafted with exceptional care, blending traditional craftsmanship with thoughtful modern comforts. Expect beautifully finished interiors featuring wood sourced from the estate, cosy wood burning stoves and luxurious soft furnishings that make each space feel warm and inviting. The kitchens are fully equipped for relaxed self-catering stays, while WiFi and Bluetooth speakers ensure you can stay as connected as you wish.

The Resting House has a cosy chalet-style feel, with reclaimed wood-clad walls and a raised king size bed perfectly positioned for dreamy morning views. Its stylish bathroom features a generous double rainfall shower and elegant granite basin. Hodge Cairn, meanwhile, offers a lighter Scandi-inspired aesthetic, with a striking ‘floating’ king size bed, backlit feature wall and a spacious shower room that rivals many full-sized homes.

Outside is where these huts truly shine. Each one has a wraparound veranda complete with a swinging egg chair, ideal for soaking up the scenery. Fire up the BBQ over the fire pit, or sink into the Hikki wood fired outdoor bath as the sun dips below the hills. With sweeping views across the Gala Water valley and towards the Moorfoot Hills, it’s an idyllic setting for total relaxation.

When you’re ready to explore, the surrounding area offers endless opportunities. Enjoy scenic walks directly from the estate, venture out to nearby historic towns like Melrose and Galashiels, or take a short trip into Edinburgh. From mountain biking and fishing to coastal day trips and world-class golf, there’s plenty to fill your days before retreating back to your peaceful woodland hideaway.

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin. The location in the nature reserve was peaceful and surrounded by beautiful trees, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind. We especially enjoyed the outdoor fire pit, with logs provided, and the bath was a lovely touch after a day of exploring. The cabin was cosy, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. We’d happily stay here again and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful escape in nature.

We stayed at Crookstone House Huts for our mini moon and had the most wonderful two-night stay. Crookstone House has the wow factor from the moment you drive up the driveway. The stunning period house is beautifully maintained and immediately sets the tone for a special stay. We were greeted by Malcolm and Georgie, who were incredibly welcoming from the moment we arrived. They even gave us a lift up to the hut in the Gator, which was a lovely touch and added to the experience. Throughout our stay, Malcolm was incredibly helpful, providing information about the activities we wanted to do in the area and offering helpful local advice. At the end of our stay, he thoughtfully messaged us to arrange a lift back to our car, which was another example of the exceptional hospitality we received. The huts are set in the most beautiful location, with breathtaking views across idyllic farmland and rolling hills. One of the first things we noticed was how well-kept everything was, from the charming gardens to the Hikki baths and fire pits, which made the setting feel extra special. The hut itself was exceptionally well equipped. Every detail had been thought of – even kitchen roll was provided! There was cooking oil, salt, pepper, sharp knives, and a good selection of pans. In our opinion, it had everything needed to prepare an evening meal comfortably. The bed was extremely comfortable, with great-quality pillows, ensuring a fantastic night's sleep. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and couldn't recommend Crookstone House Huts highly enough. The combination of stunning surroundings, beautiful accommodation, and outstanding hospitality made our mini moon truly memorable. We will definitely be returning and will be telling all our friends and family about this hidden gem.
