A few miles away is the beautiful Medieval village of St Emilion, filled with ancient churches, miles of historic catacombs, little cafes and excellent bistros, and winding streets paved with cobblestones from England, shipped over to France as ballast on English ships and replaced on the return journey with barrels of wine. The vibrant regional city of Bordeaux is only an hour's drive away, offering amazing food markets, great shopping, restaurants and of course truly world-class wine.
