The detail

In the heart of Somerset, sitting on a substantial private estate, Combe Grove is a former mansion converted into a hotel with an emphasis on restoring mind, body and soul. Perched on a hillside with extraordinary woodland and hillside views, Combe Grove is the ideal retreat for individuals, couples, friends and families looking to spend a restorative break in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty while they focus on revitalising themselves.

Inside the hotel, the bar is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine after a day of spa treatments, wellness courses, or a lengthy workout in the gym. The facilities really are one of a kind, with high-ceilinged, light-filled rooms put to use to create communal spaces for everything from swimming to meditation. Choose from two substantial pools, one is an outdoor, Mediterranean style rectangle with sun loungers and views of the nearby foliage, and the other is indoors, beneath a timber-clad vaulted roof, with light pouring in through a glass wall.

The rooms are decorated with a timeless, rural-chic aesthetic, each adhering to the overarching style of the hotel, but benefitting from flashes of individual personality in their wallpaper, bathroom fittings, and art objects. As with most of the public spaces, the bedrooms enjoy gorgeous vistas of the Somerset countryside.

Guests are encouraged to explore the grounds of the estate, which are partially wild, and partially landscaped, creating a sprawling area packed with patios, pergolas, pastures and any number of quiet sunny and shady spots, perfect places to enjoy a quiet read or conversation with friends.

The spa and wellness facilities at Combe Grove are world class, with a variety of treatment options, amenities and classes available, designed to be versatile so that guests can tailor their own bespoke treatment patterns. Whatever your idea of a rejuvenating time away, the experts, therapists and instructors at Combe Grove can make it happen.

Also on site is the restaurant, which places sustainability and good quality local produce at the heart of its culinary approach. All fish are caught off the Devon coast by partnering fishermen, all vegetables are grown nearby by farmers who share the Combe Grove vision, and all meat and game are organic and free-range. We even smoke our own salmon and ferment our own yoghurt on site. Should you want to venture into town, you’ll be delighted to find yourself at Bath city centre in ten minutes by car or taxi. A magnificent historic town and thriving hub, there are endless bars, restaurants, galleries, shops and theatres to choose from, and be sure to ask our staff for a personal recommendation.
