Found in the village of Coniston, Coachman’s House has both the location and the style for an unforgettable Lake District break. Perfect for four guests, the house has a sheltered garden surrounded by woodland which is ideal for enjoying a meal or drink in the open air.
Dating from the 19th century, this former coach house has been thoroughly renovated, featuring stylish furnishings throughout. The master bedroom is a real treat, with its king-size bed, roll-top bath and decorative fireplace, while the second bedroom occupies a loft space and has a skylight window for views of the night sky. This room also has the use of a stunning shower room on the first floor.
On the ground floor, a chic, white-walled kitchen with dining area has all you will need. A welcome pack is provided too, with bread, milk, orange juice, prosecco and more. There are more thoughtful touches in the form of luxury Bath House toiletries and fresh flowers in all the rooms.
The upstairs sitting room enjoys dual aspect views and has a warming log-burner, HD Smart TV and lots of comfortable seating. And if that’s not enough, push on the bookcase and you will discover a second lounge and snug with chaise longue, perfect for a bit of quiet reading time. There’s also DVDs and free Wi-Fi.
The landscaped garden has a barbecue and table and chairs, with views of the fells and woods. There’s storage for up to four bikes in the stables, as well as parking for one large vehicle, or two small cars. If further parking is required, free on-road parking is available on the access road to the cottage.
It’s easy to walk into the village from Coachman’s House, where you will find a number of cafés and pubs. Alternatively, wander down to Coniston Water – you can hire a boat and view this unspoilt area from the lake, or perhaps take a ride on the steam yacht gondola. The mighty Old Man of Coniston towers above the village too, offering hikers a challenge, and numerous walking routes and mountain-biking trails wind their way through the area.
You don’t need to drive too far to find more of the Lake District’s most popular spots, as Windermere, Ambleside and Hawkshead are all less than ten miles away, with the pretty town of Kendal a little further east. Top-quality restaurants are everywhere in the Lake District, so be sure to test its foodie credentials. Coniston has a selection of recommended spots itself, some overlooking the lake, all within a few miles of Coachman’s House.
