Escape to a private piece of woodland in the French Alps at Chalet F'Net, a recently renovated 19th Century property that is now teeming with luxurious splendour. Located in Saint Gervais-les-Bains - one of the most elegant towns in the region - it boast spectacular views and easy access to ski lifts.
Designed by David and Anjana Devoy, best known for their Curved House which featured on Channel 4's Grand Designs, the chalet has appeared in Marie Claire Maison, Grazie, and Biba. Little wonder considering how beautifully it has been restored using alpine timbers and stonework.
The open plan living space is the hub of the holiday home and elegantly combines old world wood and furs with modern touches. Comfy sofas sit in front of the wood burning stove at one end of the room where there is also access to the balcony. There is also an ever growing selection of books, games, and DVDs to play on the television. At the other, the kitchen beautifully melds together stainless steel, copper, and rugged wood and is fully equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine, double oven, fridge, gas hob, and array of pots, pans, cutlery, and crockery. Completing the dining area is a wooden table and chairs for six.
Going downstairs leads to the master bedroom. Light floods into the room complete with exposed stone walls, and guests can relax in the king size bed while overlooking the snow covered mountains whilst being warmed by the bio-ethanol fireplace and underfloor heating. An en-suite bathroom accompanies the room, topped off with a wood-clad hot tub for those romantic evenings. Then in the former hayloft is the second of the double bedrooms, complete with sloped wooden ceilings and a freestanding copper bath.
During the winter season there is excellent skiing right on the doorstep of Chalet F'Net, with lifts not too far away. Alternatively, take the Tramway du Mont Blanc up to the Glacier de Bionnassay in style, or the Bettex/Mont d'Arbois cablecar for stunning views of Mont Blanc. For those who want to relax, Les Thermes du Mont Blanc is a world-class spa with natural spring waters, while there are a number of fine restaurants and cafes in St Gervais-les-Bains.
