Tucked away in ancient woodland near the village of Brockweir, Birch Cottage is one of those places that immediately slows your pace. A beautifully restored stone cottage set deep in the Wye Valley, it offers total tranquillity, dark skies for stargazing and a wonderfully thoughtful eco approach that lets nature take centre stage. Wake to birdsong, wander straight onto legendary walking trails and end the day sweating it out in your own private woodland sauna.
Inside, the cottage sleeps up to six guests across three inviting double bedrooms. The master bedroom sits upstairs, accessed via its own staircase from the living room, and features a king size bed and ensuite shower room. Two further ground-floor double bedrooms share a spacious family bathroom with both a bath and separate shower, making the layout ideal for families, friends or walking groups.
The heart of the cottage is the cosy living room, where deep sofas and a wood burner create a snug retreat in every season. Flick on a film, curl up with a book or simply enjoy the glow of the fire after a long day outdoors. Heating and hot water are sustainably powered by a wood-burning boiler and solar thermal panels, with electric heaters available as backup.
Next door, the kitchen dining room is a sociable space designed for relaxed meals and long conversations. Built using locally sourced ash slabs and recycled pallet wood, it blends rustic charm with modern appliances, making cooking together a pleasure.
Step outside and you’ll find one of Birch Cottage’s standout features: a secluded sauna cabin tucked into the woodland. With a cold shower and peaceful forest views, it’s the perfect place to unwind after walking Offa’s Dyke Path or exploring Tintern Abbey.
The Wye Valley is right on your doorstep, with footpaths, viewpoints and riverside walks leading straight from the cottage. Tintern Abbey is close by, while Monmouth, the Forest of Dean, Bristol, Bath and Cardiff are all within easy reach for day trips. A village shop and café in Brockweir is just a mile away, rounding off this wonderfully restorative escape.
