Step into Beggars Barn – a grand countryside escape where luxury, comfort and celebration come together beautifully. Hidden in three and a half acres of landscaped Oxfordshire countryside near the lovely village of Shutford, this spectacular estate welcomes up to 30 guests. Perfect for big family gatherings, milestone birthdays or friends’ weekends, it combines the atmosphere of a boutique hotel with the privacy of a self-contained country home.
At the heart of the estate is the Main House – a stylish and welcoming space designed for both relaxation and entertaining. Gather in the impressive reception hall before settling into one of the elegant lounges, where crackling wood burners, soft furnishings and views of the gardens set the tone for slow, luxurious living. The Smallbone kitchen is a dream for cooks, equipped with everything you could need for group feasts – from double ovens and two sinks to fine Villeroy & Boch crockery and glassware. The adjoining dining space easily seats up to 22, making it perfect for long, laughter-filled meals. Six serene bedrooms – each with super-king size or twin beds – are spread across the house, many with ensuite bathrooms, garden access or views over the heated pool.
Outside, the estate unfurls into a series of sociable spaces made for easy outdoor living. There’s a heated swimming pool (open from mid-April to October), a hot tub available on request, and terraces set with plush sofas, firepits, BBQs and even a paella dish for summer feasts under the stars. As the sun dips, the glow of the patio heaters keeps everyone gathered late into the night.
Extending the experience, the Stables annexe is the estate’s vibrant social hub and sits just across the drive from the main house. It features two ensuite bedrooms, a large open-plan living area and a well-stocked bar complete with mood lighting. For entertainment, there’s a 75” TV with Sky and BT Sport, Bose speakers and a three-in-one games table offering table tennis, pool and air hockey. With two luxury sofa beds and the option for extra beds, it’s ideal for groups or teenagers wanting their own space. The Stables has its own kitchenette and bathroom, and enjoys lovely garden views – perfect for morning coffee or evening cocktails.
The Summer House offers a calmer, more intimate retreat within the estate and is located on the other side of the main house right by the swimming pool. It is a self-contained two-bedroom cottage that’s perfect for couples or families seeking privacy while still part of the main group. It features an open-plan kitchen, living and dining space, bright and airy throughout, with its own bathroom and walk-in shower. The two bedrooms (one double, one twin) can accommodate up to seven guests with additional sleeping in the lounge. The Summer House has easy access to the pool, hot tub and gym, creating a peaceful base for a slower pace of countryside living.
When you’re ready to explore, the Cotswolds and all its beauty are right on your doorstep. Wander into Shutford for a cosy pub lunch, explore Banbury’s historic market streets, or set off on walking and cycling trails through rolling Oxfordshire hills.
