The details
From the outside, this fabulous Den feels delightfully rustic, tucked among the trees as though it has always belonged there. Step inside, however, and you’re transported somewhere altogether more magical. The interior is wonderfully rustic with true fairytale qualities, from soft, subtle lighting and ornate furnishings to an abundance of flowers and trailing plant life that blur the line between indoors and out. With its curving, mud-like walls and earthy textures, it genuinely feels like an underground hideaway carved from the forest floor. It’s incredible – like stepping onto the set of a fantasy TV show, where every detail has been designed to spark your imagination.
At its heart is a snug sleeping space made for cosy nights after long days of adventure. Though the pod is uninsulated, the glow of the electric fireplace, heated blankets and a Dyson heater keep things deliciously warm as the night air settles outside. There’s a fridge and kettle for easy morning coffees in bed, while outside your private BBQ sets the scene for relaxed alfresco suppers. Cook over the flames, pour a glass of something chilled and gather by your crackling firepit as the trees darken around you. Later, sink into your exclusive wood fired hot tub and let the bubbles rise as you listen to the woods whisper and the stars begin to shimmer overhead.
Then comes the twist. Hidden within the Den lies your own immersive escape room experience. The White Queen’s wolves are on the hunt and time is ticking. Side by side, you’ll search for clues, crack codes and race the clock in a brilliantly playful challenge woven seamlessly into your surroundings. Laughter, triumph and maybe a little dramatic tension are all part of the story, making your stay feel utterly unique.
Bathroom facilities are a short stroll away in the shared swimming pool room, where you’ll also find part of the estate’s wellness offering. During your stay you can enjoy access to a tennis court, honesty bar that transforms into an outdoor cinema, fire pits with complimentary wood, Muntjac Meadow’s playing field and soothing spaces with a sauna, jacuzzi and indoor pool. Keep an eye out for Squeak, the friendly resident cat, who may wander over to say hello.
Beyond the estate, Oxford awaits. Wander through Shotover Country Park, visit C.S. Lewis’s former home and garden, drift along the Cherwell on a punt or lose yourself in world-class museums before returning to your secret woodland hideaway.
