This combination of three exquisite beach houses all sit right by the water’s edge where the River Hayle meets the sea near St Ives overlooking the magnificent Porthkidney Sands Beach. The three homes, Beach House, Ferry House and Ferryman’s Rest, are all wonderfully designed and furnished, and each has its own luxurious hot tub where you can while away an evening taking in the sea view in peace. Hire all three of these superb properties together for one giant group getaway, or book them separately for small group stays.
Up first is Beach House. This was once the creative hideaway of Cornwall’s beloved artist John Miller, and is now a serene coastal retreat for up to five guests. Just steps from the sand, this dreamy spot is perfect for small families, friends or anyone craving a break by the sea. Inside, you’ll find a calming colour palette and contemporary comforts that set you up for a superb stay. The open-plan ground floor blends a sleek kitchen, cosy lounge and dining space for six – ideal for post-surf suppers or long lazy breakfasts. One sofa transforms into a comfy double bed, and glass doors lead out to a charming terrace with unforgettable views. Upstairs, two lovely bedrooms – one double, one twin – offer peaceful slumber with the sound of waves in the background. A stylish shower room helps wash the beach away, and there’s a handy utility space for sandy wetsuits or soggy paws.
When the evening rolls around, hop into the hot tub, pop a bottle, sink into the bubbles and watch the sunset paint the sea. And with the beach just metres away, morning dips and moonlit strolls are yours for the taking.
Up next is the marvellous Ferry House. Perched just steps above golden sands this home is a dreamy coastal escape for up to seven guests. With breathtaking sea views in every direction and a private garden made for lazy summer days, this is classic Cornwall at its best. Inside, the spacious open-plan layout is perfect for sociable stays. The modern kitchen flows into a relaxed living area with comfy sofas, a crackling wood-burner and big bay views. There’s a flat-screen TV, shelves of books and board games for cosy evenings in – or just curl up for a snooze after a morning swim in the sea. Whip up breakfast at the kitchen island or gather for dinner with a sea view at the dining table.
In summer, head outside to the covered pergola where long benches, a built-in BBQ, and a bubbling hot tub create the ultimate alfresco hangout. There’s even an indoor heated pool for year-round dips! At night, retreat to one of four comfy bedrooms (super-kings, bunks and kings available). One room is on the ground floor, ideal for guests with limited mobility. Wake to dazzling light, grab a coffee and explore the dunes or follow in the footsteps of Virginia Woolf with a walk towards Godrevy Lighthouse.
And last, but most certainly not least, is Ferrymans Rest. Set high above the sparkling sands, with front-row views of St Ives Bay and Godrevy Lighthouse, Ferryman’s Rest is a bright, breezy beach house made for unforgettable seaside stays. Sleeping up to 10, it’s a dreamy escape for family gatherings or groups of friends craving fresh sea air and coastal calm. Step inside and you’ll find light-filled, open-plan living with whitewashed floors, nautical touches and beamed ceilings. The galley kitchen is fully equipped for easy holiday cooking and opens onto a spacious terrace. Gather around the big dining table for long, lazy dinners, or cosy up on the sofa with a film and the wood-burner glowing. There’s also a stunning sunroom with panoramic bay views.
Outside, the terrace is pure seaside bliss. Fire up the BBQ, dip into the hot tub under the stars or take the private steps down to the dog-friendly beach below for a morning swim or sandy stroll. Sleeping arrangements are versatile and relaxed, with four bedrooms: two kings, a room with four singles (perfect for kids) and a triple bunk. Expect comfy beds, crisp linens and the gentle hush of waves to lull you to sleep. There’s also a stylish family bathroom with a bath and overhead shower, plus a separate shower room for stress-free mornings.
Whichever home you stay in, you can step straight onto the sand and enjoy beachcombing along the pretty bay or wander the dunes for a peaceful escape. Stroll the South West Coastal Path to St. Ives, stopping at local pubs, cafes and the famous Tate gallery. Birdwatchers can spot coastal species, and nature lovers may even glimpse seals from their beds. The beach is dog-friendly year-round, and those seeking history can explore the St Michael’s Way Pilgrimage Route.
These three homes are also based directly on the Salt Path, which is a part of the Southwest coastal footpath and is the first UK section of the Camino Santiago de Compostela (also known as the Saint Michael's Way) where it is possible to get a Camino stamp at the neighbouring St Uny Church.
