Perched on a billion-year-old rocky point near the tip of Michigan’s wild and beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula, Anam Cara is one of those places that stops you in your tracks. Set within 12 secluded acres with over half a mile of private shoreline on Lake Medora, this handcrafted cabin blends soulful architecture, earthy luxury and total immersion in nature for a truly unforgettable escape.
Designed and built by artists, the cabin feels like a fairytale hideaway, often likened to a Hansel and Gretel cottage thanks to its stone and bark exterior, tiled roof and enchanting details throughout. Inside, it is warm, light-filled and deeply comforting, with every element carefully considered to harmonise with the surrounding landscape. Wrap-around windows pull the lake, gardens and sky into almost every room, making you feel completely connected to the outdoors.
Sleeping up to four adults, the cabin has two serene bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, beautiful lake views, writing desks and artistic lighting. High quality bedding is provided, with a choice of percale or flannel sheets. The master bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom, while the second bathroom features a bathtub with a window perfectly positioned for long, scenic soaks. There is also a handy half-bath off the main living space.
At the heart of the cabin is the open plan kitchen, dining and living area. The custom-built kitchen is fully equipped for anything from simple breakfasts to gourmet dinners, with granite worktops, cherry cabinetry and lovely views while you cook. The dining table seats eight comfortably, setting the scene for leisurely meals and late-night conversations, while the living area centres around a wood-burning fireplace and cosy seating. A clever coffee table reveals a hidden smart TV when you want a quiet movie night.
A screened porch offers another inviting place to relax, perfect for reading, sharing a bottle of wine or simply gazing out across the water. Outdoors, the magic really unfolds. There is a fire ring by the lake, a deck overhanging the water, a hammock spot, an outdoor hot shower tucked among the gardens and miles of shoreline to explore. With canoes, trails, sandy coves and total privacy, Anam Cara invites you to slow down, breathe deeply and truly reconnect.
When you do venture out, Copper Harbor is just six miles away, with its galleries, cafés and access to Lake Superior adventures, while Mount Bohemia offers world-class skiing and hiking. Whether you’re here to explore, create or simply rest, Anam Cara is a place that lingers long after you leave.
