Lisbon’s LX Boutique Hotel is the result of an amazing transformation. What was once a derelict ruin is now a stunning hotel in a thriving part of town, with views over the River Tagus, lovely staff and some of the best breakfasts you’ll find in all of Portugal.
Built on seven hills, the quirky Portuguese capital blends art, culture and fun to such great effect it’s a city everyone should take the time to experience. Whether your room at LX looks out over the river or the city, you’ll be enjoying a fine view, and the décor inside is pretty impressive too. Calming shades, antique furnishings and imaginative themes (a different one on each floor) make this accommodation a pleasure to return to after a day’s sightseeing, with no detail overlooked.
The facilities are top-notch too, with a mini-bar, iPod dock, satellite TV and en suite as standard, and extras including a desk, balcony, bathrobes and slippers supplied in the grand river-view loft suite, where you’ll have even more space to indulge yourselves.
If you’re wondering about the name, it stands for Lisbon Experience, and that’s exactly what the hotel intends to provide. Remember those themed floors? They take inspiration from the city, with Fado music, the Bairro Alto district and local 20th-century poet Pessoa among the sources.
LX boasts a beautiful restaurant and bar, Confraria, with plenty more dining options to explore in the lively locality. Lisbon’s main railway station, Cais do Sodré, lies within 2 minutes’ walk of the hotel, providing an easy way to transport you in the direction of the beautiful beaches which line the coast. There’s also a metro station and a ferry terminal with journeys out to see the iconic Cristo Rei statue on the southern bank of the Tagus – you’ll be rewarded with fantastic views back to the city when you get there.
The attractions of Lisbon are many and varied, but it’s particularly hard to beat for art and history, with UNESCO World Heritage sites like Jerónimos Monastery and late gothic Belém Tower top of many people’s list. You could also check out Europe’s longest bridge, the Vasco da Gama, ride the near-legendary Tram 28, or head straight for the centre and take your coffee in the stunning Praça do Rossio square… and the beauty of LX’s location is it’s so simple to get to almost anywhere.
Lisbon remains a real, vibrant city which will surprise and fascinate you, and the LX Boutique Hotel is sure to make your Lisbon experience an extra-special one.
