The detail
A short walk away from Lansallos Cove, Lansallos Old House has an enclosed garden with a BBQ, great for watching the sun set with the family. Inside, curl up in the sitting room with its gorgeous beams and slate floors, and put your feet up in front of the log burner after a hard day’s exploring.
This comfortable cottage (adjoining Lansallos West House) was converted from an old farmhouse and still retains plenty of charm. With three bedrooms and sleeping four, it’s also brilliant for small family groups or friends getting together to explore the South West Coast Path. Outside, soak up the countryside, hamlet and church views from the garden. The well-placed picnic table is in a prime position for relaxing after a day on the beach, and up to two dogs can enjoy a holiday too.
Halfway between Polruan and Polperro, you’ll find Lansallos Barton and this handsome house. From the cottage, it’s just a short walk down to Lansallos Cove, through the atmospheric tree-lined sunken lane, originally a cart track used by fishermen and smugglers for transporting fish, seaweed and contraband up into the village. Once you’re at the cove, you can pick up the coast path and then link into a whole network of footpaths and walking trails, great for walkers and wildlife lovers.
Whether you’re looking for walks or beautiful beaches, this magnificent stretch of coastline is still largely unspoilt. To the west you can take in the magnificent bays at Lantivet and Lantic and to the east there’s pretty Talland Bay, once a well-known spot for smugglers to land. Nearby you’ll also find the quaint old fishing village of Polperro, and busier harbour town of Looe with its pleasant beach. Travel west to take in the magnificent headland at Pencarrow before discovering the village of Polruan, where you can cross over by passenger ferry to the bustling town of Fowey.
