Occupying the most picturesque spot, Penrose is right by the beach at Sennen, in west Cornwall’s Vellandreath Valley. Bordered by a stream and sand dunes, this privately-owned 8-acre site offers breathtaking panoramic sea views, the perfect setting for a tranquil stay at Penrose.
This three-bedroom cottage has its own private garden and sheltered patio, and lies just 250m from the beach. Accessible on foot down a sandy beach path from the private car park, it’s in a secluded position – ideal if it’s peace and solitude you’re seeking.
Exposed stonework and beams give the living room a traditional feel, with a wood-burning stove in the granite inglenook fireplace, and chunky green leather sofas to curl up on. You have TV, DVD and Wi-Fi, plus there is also a dining table and a kitchen fitted out with pine furnishings, which has a lovely view of the sea.
A stable door leads you out to the patio with barbecue and the split-level garden, while stairs take you up to the first floor. A double bedroom features an ornate antique bed, complemented by a second bedroom with a single and a built-in bed, and a third with bunk beds. If you are bringing an infant, a high-chair and cot are also available.
A charming bathroom with skylight and slate floor has an eye-catching corner bath, as well as an overhead shower.
Penrose is a great family choice, and with the beach so close, there’s plenty of outdoor fun to be had nearby. Sennen is known as a great place to surf, with a couple of surf schools located in the village, and the pretty harbour is a picturesque spot with some lovely pubs, cafés and galleries around and about.
With Land’s End just a mile away, you’ll be able to tick this iconic Cornish landmark off your list, and several others besides – the open-air Minack Theatre, St Michael’s Mount and the Tate St Ives are all easily accessible. Penzance is just eight miles away and serves as the area’s artistic hub, but if you would rather just soak up the natural beauty of this glorious county, there’s no finer way to see it than the South West Coast Path.
