In the midst of a rugged landscape characterised by dizzying peaks, plunging valleys and verdant, unspoiled wilderness, Gill Beck Barn is as lovely inside as out, having been finished and furnished with great attention to detail, creating a home which is a joy to inhabit.
Backing onto fields demarcated by traditional stone walls, Gill Beck Barn enjoys views uninterrupted by evidence of human activity, something which must be experienced to appreciate truly. Inside, a farmhouse-style aesthetic combines warm oak floors, high, vaulted whitewashed ceilings and an open plan kitchen-cum-dining room. The kitchen/dining space is built around the focal point of a Scandinavian style engineered wood-burning stove set within a traditional sandstone hearth. Cosiness is guaranteed by the ground-source heat pump and the aga, while the house is abundant in decadent, tasteful features. These include the impressive oak dining table, which adds a touch of grandeur and significance to every meal, and the original sandstone millwheel which sits in the courtyard, perfectly located to be seen from the roll top bath tub in the master bathroom.
Inside, two of the three bedrooms are found on the ground floor, making this a sensible choice for those with mobility issues. All three bedrooms are equipped with queen size beds, finished in high-quality linens, and with their own private en-suite shower rooms.
The Lake District is generally regarded to be one of the most topographically attractive regions in England, which has unsurprisingly inspired countless poets, artists and musicians from all over the world. Enjoying protected national park status, the area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, walkers, and those who feel most at peace when surrounded by birds, trees, lakes, and unspoiled wilderness.
As well as being perfectly placed to steal a march on the day’s walking, with a number of trails and footpaths starting just a stone’s throw away, you’ll also be just a ten minute stroll from the cosy and authentic Shepherd’s Inn Pub which does great food, as well as the Old Village Bakery with its tea garden, roaring fire and Boutique Upstairs. Also in the area is the celebrated Aira Force waterfall.
