Willow Garth House is a Grade II listed house dating from circa 1875, set in a gorgeous 25-acre estate in the picturesque village of Great Smeaton, Yorkshire. Formerly the water tower and stables to Great Smeaton Manor, the property has been lovingly renovated by the hosts to make it as special a getaway as possible. Perfect for getting family and friends together in style, guests staying at Willow Garth House can enjoy luxurious interiors, wonderful countryside views and an indulgent soak in the private, outdoor hot tub.
The house has been thoughtfully designed to provide lots of space to socialise, as well as more intimate spaces to relax in. These include the delightful sitting room, with plenty of comfy sofas and armchairs, and an open fire to cosy up around on chilly days. Guests young and old can be kept entertained in the games room, complete with table tennis table, table football and a TV.
The home’s farmhouse style kitchen is a real cook’s dream, characterised by the four oven AGA and large central island. You’ll also find premium cookware, utensils and an extensive collection of Emma Bridgewater crockery. Meals can be shared around the large dining table, where guests can enjoy the view across the rolling fields whilst they eat. The kitchen and sitting rooms both lead out to the internal courtyard, which has a seating area and BBQ (ideal for alfresco dining) and a hot tub.
The property sleeps up to 12 guests in six bedrooms. There are two spacious king rooms with sleigh beds, dual aspect views across the fields and ensuite bathrooms with rolltop baths, one pretty double room with ensuite bathroom, two twins (one at the top of the tower,) and another ensuite room which can be set up as a super king or twins for flexibility.
Outside the property is a large lawned area and private garden with summer house, another quiet place to unwind, and the house is surrounded by open countryside, where you might even catch a glimpse of one of the estate’s majestic horses roaming.
Willow Garth House is situated between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, both offering excellent walks, stunning views and lots of great country pubs to visit. There are plenty of other things to see and do in the local area, including a day at Thirsk races, a trip to the country houses of Newby Hall, Kiplin Hall and Castle Howard, or teeing off at some of the region’s best golf courses.
The charming local market towns of Bedale and Ripon are nearby, and the historic city of York is just under an hour’s drive away. If you fancy a trip to the coast, the seaside town of Whitby and the beaches and coves of Runswick Bay, Sand’s End and Robin Hood’s Bay are also within reach.
