Kept a secret for much of the last century, few people have even seen the Victorian Water Tower, let alone stepped foot inside. Now you and up to seven other guests have the chance to stay here, offering up a unique experience that boasts fantastic views and lots of great photo opportunities. Every inch of the 85’ tower’s interior has been carefully curated, from eye-catching wall murals to quirky curiosities and upcycled furniture, some of which are handmade by the host.
Guests arrive at the impressive, full-height entrance hall, which leads to the ‘Engine Room’. This room houses a dining table for eight, an Ercol sofa opposite a ceramic Swedish burner and a baby grand piano. Stairs lead up to the mezzanine sitting room with comfy seating, a smart TV and a selection of board games, a lovely spot to relax.
You’ll find a bedroom on each floor of the tower, accessed via the original spiral staircase. Just like the rest of the property, the bedrooms are oozing with eccentric style. Each is wonderfully unique and features a king size or double bed. The first-floor room has a balcony overlooking the garden, whilst guests staying at the top of the tower will be rewarded with idyllic views from the porthole. Two of the rooms have ensuites and there is also a shared family bathroom.
If you fancy eating in, you can make use of the spacious kitchen, which is fully fitted with modern appliances and all the pans, cutlery and crockery you could wish for. Guests also have available a full complement of cooking ingredients. Outside you’ll find the delightful lawned garden and patio with outdoor furniture, which is the perfect place to enjoy a morning brew or to share a bite to eat. Lap up the sun and enjoy the beautiful sunsets on the sun soaked top lawn with views across the fields. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more magical, you will be delighted by the atmospheric fairy lights at dusk illuminating the Tower and garden.
The property is just a five-minute walk from a charming country pub, and if you need to stock up on supplies there is a local shop a short drive away (the house also accepts Ocado deliveries). You’ll also be close to the towns of Hertford, Stevenage and Cambridge, all of which have a nice array of shops, bars and eateries.
Activity-wise, the house is ideally located to explore the Hertfordshire countryside, with many walks and cycle paths right on your doorstep, just ask the helpful host for some of the best. For the adventurous, there are opportunities for white water rafting at Waltham Cross and wild swimming in Hertford, both within a 30-minute drive. Also within reach is a water park, the Harry Potter Studio Tour and stately homes at Knebworth and Hatfield.
