Located in the charming village of Upwey on the outskirts of Weymouth, this grand 17th century house is perfect for big family get-togethers or celebrations. Set in 23 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside and with stunning views out to the Jurassic Coast, it’s a fantastic spot to kick back and relax. The house itself has a rich history dating back to the 17th century and much of the original character has been preserved while adding plenty of modern luxuries. It still has the feel of a classic country manor house with lots of room for everyone to explore at their own pace. Take your pick of the nine unique bedrooms, seat 24 for dinner around the oak table, stroll through the walled garden and out into the grounds or test your skills at the snooker table.
The bright and spacious kitchen, which opens out onto the dining room, is the social hub of the house. Everyone can get stuck in with preparing dinner using the top of the range appliances, or on special occasions, one of the local chefs can be hired to take care of things. On warmer days, head to the outdoor kitchen where you’ll find a gas BBQ and a wood fired oven along with a double fridge, sink and a bar, everything you need for entertaining. There’s also a large terrace with an outdoor dining table and space to lounge around in the sunshine, all with beautiful views over the fields and down to the sea.
After dinner, put your feet up in front of the log fire in the drawing room as the kids head off to the play room or for a game of hide and seek around the house. There’s also a snooker room and a table tennis table out on the terrace. There are nine bedrooms, all individually furnished to show off their unique character and set up in a combination of single, twin, double and king size beds, offering plenty of flexibility for large groups of up to 18. You’ll find all the beds equipped with comfy mattresses and luxurious linen promising a good night’s sleep and if you need some additional sleeping space, sofa beds and put-up beds can accommodate another six guests.
There’s plenty of exploring to be done without leaving the grounds of the house. From playing cricket, football or croquet on the lawns to paddling in the stream to discovering the walled garden. Stretch your legs and go for a walk through the fields and woodland in the grounds or venture a little further afield and head down to the spectacular Chesil Beach. There’s wine tasting available at the Langham Wine Estate or you might prefer a trip to Monart Spa, just 10 minutes away in the car. Have a go at some watersports down on Weymouth’s seafront or charter a boat ride along the coast and soak it all up from the sea.
