Perched on a hillside and overlooking Salcombe’s gorgeous South Sands beach, Underbecks provides a luxurious escape with some spectacular views. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out over the sea and flood the interior with natural light and the large terrace is the perfect spot for a barbecue or a drink as you watch the sunset. Underbecks comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests in five beautifully furnished bedrooms and is a great choice for groups or families looking for a seaside escape. You couldn’t get closer to the beach, the vibrant town of Salcombe is just upstream and the South Sands Hotel is a short walk away offering delicious food. You’re also within a mile of Overbecks, a fascinating National Trust property with stunning gardens to explore.
As you enter the house on the first floor, large roof windows bathe the hallway and open-plan living area with light while the bay windows reveal the staggering scenery. On this floor, you’ll also find four of the bedrooms. Two of these are king-size rooms which enjoy views over the harbour through floor-to-ceiling windows and have ensuite bathrooms. There is a twin room with a bathroom next door and another bedroom which can be set up as a twin or a super king. This room is an ensuite and also has its own private decked terrace from which you can catch a glimpse of the sea.
You’ll find the final bedroom on the ground floor, which will be a huge hit with the kids. The room features two bunk beds and a playful porthole with views down to the beach. There’s another living space on this floor which features a home cinema and floor-to-ceiling windows which open up directly onto the terrace. You can invite the sea air in as you gather around the dining table for a meal together and sophisticated lighting overhead produces the perfect mood for a dinner party. Alternatively, take the cooking outside to the huge terrace where there’s an outdoor dining table and a charcoal barbecue.
If you can tear yourself away from those views, there’s plenty to explore in the local area. Salcombe is a pretty harbour town where you can spend hours sitting along the harbour walls with a crabbing line or exploring the independent shops and restaurants. The house is also situated right on the South West Coastal Path, one of the most scenic walking routes in the country, so it’s well worth bringing your walking boots. You can also walk to Overbecks Museum and Garden. This beautiful Edwardian house, tucked away in the cliffs over Salcombe, boasts stunning subtropical gardens with rare and exotic plants and stunning views of the estuary below.
